I can’t believe we are already in the first week of September. On a high note though football started last night, so that is always a good thing in my world. I am upset that I can’t watch one of my teams play because our satellite provider doesn’t carry the channel, so that sucks, but I will figure it out. Here are the links from this past week:
I am going to be transitioning from what I have been doing for almost nine years at work into a new job so I am not sure how much I will be around. Other than book reviews that I have to be posted on a certain day there might not be many other posts. I hope that I will see you back here next week!
FTC: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.
Baby Doll by Hollie Overton was an excellent book. I was hooked right from the start with this book, but I figured that I would like it because of the description of the book. These types of books are my favorites, and this one didn’t let me down in the least. I have always been a fan of suspense/thriller books, and this one kept me on the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I can’t wait to read other books by her in the future. There were parts of this book that were hard to read because of what was going on, but it wasn’t anything that made me not want to finish the book. I was able to get through this book fast because it was an easy read. If you love suspense novels than I know, you will love this book as much as I did.
About The Book
For fans of Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, Baby Doll is the most tense thriller you will read this year.
Held captive for eight years, Lily has grown from a teenager to an adult in a small basement prison. Her daughter Sky has been a captive her whole life. But one day their captor leaves the deadbolt unlocked.
This is what happens next…
…to her twin sister, to her mother, to her daughter…and to her captor.
Born in Chicago, I was adopted at six days old, along with my identical twin sister, Heather, and carried home in matching red Christmas stockings. After our parents divorce, we moved back to my mother’s hometown of Kingsville, Texas. Painfully shy, Heather and I were encouraged to audition for the local production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The minute I stepped on stage, I was hooked! My mom, also a film and TV junkie nurtured my talents, ensuring that I would never pursue a “normal” profession.
My love affair with storytelling led me to NYC where I studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, writing at Hunter College and Burlington College and mixology in Murray Hill. After heading to Hollywood with dreams of becoming a star, my celluloid claim to fame was one episode of TNT”s “Leverage,” opposite DB Sweeny. Thankfully I realized my talents were better suited behind the scenes and began my screenwriting pursuits.
I landed my big break in 2008 when I was accepted into the coveted Warner Brothers Writers Workshop, a bootcamp style program for aspiring TV writers. After completing the workshop, I was staffed on the CBS drama “Cold Case,” and went on to write for two seasons of Lifetime’s The Client List.” I’m currently a writer on the new ABC Family dramaShadowhunters, based on Cassie Clare’s international bestseller “The Mortal Instruments.”
I always dreamt of publishing a novel but let’s be honest, writing a book is daunting. I mean it’s really really daunting. Luckily, in the spring of 2012, I finally sat my butt down and just kept writing. My debut thriller “Baby Doll” will be published on July 12, 2016 by Red Hook, an imprint of Hatchette in the USA. Baby Doll will also be published by Peguin Random House in the UK and translated into eleven other languages.
I live in West Hollywood with the love of my life, my rescue dog Stevie and my husband David (he’s comfortable where he stands). When I’m not writing, I can be found exploring LA (and beyond) with my twin sister/ best friend, Heather. Sometimes we even let Stevie and David join us.
It is almost July, and I have no idea where all the time has gone this year. It seems like I have been going since the first of the year and if I am honest, I need a break. I wish I had the time to take a few days off of work and relax but because of the days I take off my infusion, I don’t have the time to take a day off where I don’t have anything to do. I guess it could always be worse, and at least I have a job and health insurance. Anyway, let’s just get right into the links from this past week.
This week for the writers workshop I am going to write about number six which is: List 8 people, places, or things you’d like to give a timeout too. I chose this one because it made me smile and I wish that I could put people in my life in time out. There are quite a few things that I want to put in time out, so let’s just get on the list.
The very first thing on this list has to be the people who have been working on getting our emails working at work. We are at a week down, and there still is no end in sight. I get that is can be hard at times but over a week just seems like someone isn’t doing their job. I also can’t even imagine how much work and money we are losing because we aren’t receiving any emails. (They are up and working now. I wrote this a few days ago and they weren’t working yet.)
The next thing that needs a time out is the crazy spring weather in Utah. It will go from freezing to 80 degrees and then back to freezing over two or three days.
Stupid drivers are the next people that need a timeout. I have had to commute for years now, and I have seen some crazy things like one lady curling her hair. I want them all to be in timeout so that we make it to work safely without any stress.
The next things that need a time out are the stupid birds that insist on eating the cat food that I put out for my stray cats at work. It makes me so mad to see the birds eating all of the food that I bring for the cats so most of the day I leave the food inside until I see a cat waiting for it.
The next people that need a time out is most of the men in my family because they just get on my nerves, and I would love to make them sit in the corner.
Next, up I wish I could put my health insurance in time out because it sucks and doesn’t cover anything, so I am going to be upside down in medical debt again.
I also would love to put some of the women that I work with in time out. I have worked with the same group of men for almost years, and we were all hired by another company in January. The new business has a ton of women working for them, and we all know that women tend to have drama, so I want to put them all in time out because I have no patience for drama or high school games.
The very last thing that I would love to put in time out is Google. I have a love-hate relationship with Google, so I want to put them in time out because I can.
Those are the eight things and people who need a time out. I am sure I will think of more once this post is live so maybe I will make this post into a series of posts in the future.
What or who do you think needs a time out?
Here are all the other prompts for this week in case you want to pick one and join in:
1. Throwback Thursday: Choose a photo from a previous May and write a poem or a blog post.
2. You are given a part to act in a show you watch. Which show would you choose?
3. Share a lesson you learned from your Mother that still sticks with you to this day.
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: red.
5. Talk about your favorite social media platform and why you love it so much.
6. List eight people, places, or things you’d like to give a timeout to.
This was a prompt from the writers workshop a few weeks back add I still wanted to share the channels that I am loving so that you can check them out as well. I watch tons of YouTube video now that I don’t tons to do at work right now, so I want to share some of my favorite ones. To pick these, I went through my history of video’s I watched and picked channels that I saw over and over again.
Fail Army-I watch these videos the minute I get the email saying they uploaded a new video. I love watching the crazy things that people do.
CoffeeBreakwithDani-I loves this channel because she is always so positive and she just makes me smile. She has a beauty channel, but sometimes she does other type videos. She also someone that I trust what she says.
TwoBabyMamas-These two are pregnant with their second baby, and I can’t stop watching them. I have been following them since they were trying to conceive their first daughter so I can’t wait for them to have their second daughter. I also find their story interesting because of everything they have to do to get pregnant.
LastWeekTonight-I loves this channel because I usually agree with what he says but he also talks about things I haven’t heard of before, and I love staying informed about things that happen in the world.
Glam&Gore-This lady won the NYX Face Awards and since then I have loved watching all of her tutorials because she always makes me laugh and she is amazing at what she does.
Philip DeFranco-I has watched this channel for years, and I will continue to watch it as long as he makes videos.
CaseyNeistat-I just recently started watching his video’s, and I love them because they are short daily vlogs, and he has had several viral videos, so he just has an unusual style to his videos and I love that about his videos.
Happily Houseless-I found this channel back in December and since then I have been hooked because of the medical stuff he has had to deal with the past few months.
Kristen Leanne-I loves this channel and to be honest; I am not 100% sure why. I watch all of her video’s, and I don’t see me stopping anytime soon.
GlamLifeGuru aka Tati-I had one more that I wanted to tell you about because if you are into makeup, I think you will enjoy her videos. I like them, and I don’t wear any makeup so she must be doing something right.
I also have done a post like this twice before so if you want to see what I watched years ago, you can here if and here if to check them out. Also have written a couple of posts where I talk about some videos that I love so you can check those out here and here if you want to as well.
Those are the ones that I am currently loving. I think I am going to do this post more often because I am always finding great new channels, and I like to share them with friends.
