8 Things For Bored Kids To Do

8 Things For Bored Kids To Do

When I saw that one of the prompts this week was to list eight things for bored kids to do, I knew I had to write about it because of things that my Grandma used to make me do if I ever said I was bored. To this day, I still never say I am bored to her because I have no doubt she would find something for me to do that I don’t want to do. Anyway here are eight things that your kids could do if they say they are bored.

  1. Have them go and clean something. This is what my Grandma would have me do if I ever told her I was bored. She usually made me go and dust which to this day I still hate doing and I am sure that is what her mom made her do if she said she was bored.
  2. Have them go and read a good book.

  3. Depending on the time of year they can go outside and play with friends or ride bikes.

  4. Give them a craft to work on that won’t cause a super big mess but will keep them entertained.

  5. Have them play a board game if the weather outside isn’t the best. This one would never have worked for my brother and me because to this day we still get into huge fights when we play board games together.

  6. Set up a small scavenger hunt for them to work on.

  7. Help them bake some cookies and take they to an elder neighbor.

  8. Go and explore somewhere you and the kids have never been before.

Those are 8 things that you could try and do with your children if they say they are bored. Even now as an adult I don’t say those words because I always get stuck doing something that I have no desire to do.

What is something that you would have your kids do when they say they are bored?

1. List 10 things you love about motherhood
2. A photo journal entry…show us what winter looks like in your town.
3. Book review!
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: shocked.
5. Take a look at your archives, what were you blogging about in a previous year at this time? What has changed?
6. List 8 solutions for bored children.
7. Write about something funny a sibling said to you.

The Cubs-An Update

The Cubs UpdateI don’t know the last time I have done an update on the cubs so since I am trying to have a post each day in November I figured now was a good time to write one.  Alley Cat aka Elinore is also sick and I am not sure how long she will be around so I figured I should write down some memories of her because after she is gone I know I won’t be able to write about her without crying.  If you are new here and haven’t read what I wrote about them before you can click here and check that out.  Anyway lets get on to the updates on the girls.

As I reading this post I realized that I may not have talked about Brycen before on here so if I haven’t he is my brothers son who just turned one.

Alley One

Elinore

Like I said before Elinore aka Alley Cat is sick.  We aren’t 100% sure what is wrong with her because I don’t have money to really do the testing to find out what is going on with her.  The vet thinks it is probably inflammatory bowel disease and/or cancer.  So all we are really doing to treat her is give her cortisone shots about once a month.  Once those stop working though we will have to put her down.  Alley also doesn’t mind being around Brycen which is crazy because most cats don’t like little kids.  She will let him pet her and things like that.

Sylvia

Not much is really going on with Sylvia right now which is a good thing because I don’t think I could handle both of them being sick at the same time and having even more vet bills to pay right now.  Sylvia hates Brycen around her.  She just avoids him and if she does get caught by him she will just growl & hiss at him.  She hasn’t ever tried to hurt him so we don’t have to worry about that with him.  I don’t have any recent pictures of Sylvia so I am going to try and take one tonight when I get home from work so I can post it here.

Graham Greene-Quote Of The Week

Quote Of The Week

This weeks quote is by Graham Greene and it is about childhood & letting the future in.

Graham Greene

I loved this quote because it is so true at least it is to me.  I know my whole childhood I was almost forced to grow up and become more of an adult because of things that happened to me.  The one time I remember though was when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 15 or 16.  I still remember sitting in the doctors office finding out that I had MS and knowing from that point on that my life was about to change and I had to start making adult decisions because I had a disease that was never going to go away or get any better.

Did anything like that ever happen to you?

What do you think of this week quote and as usual let me know what quotes you are loving right now.

I Loved . . .

I Loved

This week for the writers workshop I am going to write about number one which is: A movie you loved as a child.  There are a few movies that I loved as a child so I am going to post a few of the ones that I loved.

The first one that came to mind when I read this post had to be the movie “Labyrinth“.

Labyrinth

Even now when I watch this movie it makes me smile and I am not 100% sure what it is about this movie that I loved so much.  It has David Bowie in it and if you haven’t seen it then I think it is worth watching if you want a good laugh.

The second movie I loved was “Willow”.

Willow

I have tried to watch this movie as an adult and I am not sure what I liked about it because I literally can’t get through watching the movie now.  I remember parts of this movie but everytime I try and watch it now that I am an adult I turn it off because it is that bad.

The third movie I loved was “The Wizard of Oz”

Wizard Of Oz

There isn’t much to say about this movie because I love it that much.  When it was realised a few years ago on DVD I bought several copies because the VHS I had broke and I didn’t want to be without it again.  I basically have the whole movie memorized and yet I still get excited if I see that it is on TV.  To me this will always be a classic movie.

The fourth and final movie that I loved was “The Sound of Music”

The Sound of Music

I still love this movie and I watch it all the time.  It did take until I was an adult to get everything that was really going on in the movie.  Once I realized what was going on in the movie I loved it even more.  I have always loved WWII so that made me love the movie even more.

Those are the four movies that came to mind right when I read the prompt.

What movies did you love as a child?

Mama’s Losin’ It

This weeks prompts

1.) A movie you loved as a child.

2.) Write a post inspired by the word: lost.

3.) Five of your current favorite things.

4.) Pinterest inspired! Share a pin you actually tried. How did it go?

5.) You’re better off without it…

No Kids

No Kids

My brother and his girlfriend had a baby at the end of November.  I wondered how it would make me feel when there was a baby around.  His girlfriend went back to work this past weekend and I was shocked to see that it wasn’t sad for me to have baby around.  In fact having a baby around made me realize that I am 100% right when I tell people I don’t want kids.

When I tell people that I don’t want kids they always tell me that I will change my mind and things will change when I fall in love but I can honestly say I have no desire to have kids.  The baby is a good baby I just don’t have the patience or even want to find the patience to deal with kids.

I realized that I am selfish person and to be honest I am 100% okay with that.  I have to wonder how many women feel like I do but because people in this country expect you to have children so you never hear about it.  I also wonder if there would be less child abuse if women weren’t made to feel like they have to have children.

As most of you are aware I did have a daughter when I was 20 that I placed for adoption.  I now look at the situation and I am so grateful that I placed her because I am not cut out to be a mother to children.  I love my daughter more than anything but I don’t have the patience to deal with children.  I love to do my own things and be able to do what I want to do when I want to do it.  I believe this is also part of the reason that I am okay being single and not looking for people to date.

Anyway I guess I want women out there to know that it is okay if you don’t want children and to not let the world make you feel pressured into having them!  It is okay to say “No Kids”!

Two Words

two words

This was a  prompt for the writers workshop or will be this coming week but I really wanted to write about it.  The topic is: If you could write a note to your younger self, what would you say in just two words.  If I only had two words that I could use I think I would have them say:

Don't Rush

I would chose these words because I was always in a rush to grow up and I wish now I would have just enjoyed being a child and not worried about growing up and how I wanted to be an adult.  I find it funny now as adults everyone say’s not to rush growing up and enjoying being a child but we all know that every child wants to be an adult.  I know when people told me to enjoying being a child I just laughed it off because being a kid seems to suck when you are younger.  I wish I would have enjoyed more of the few good years of my childhood that I had before things changed again and this next phrase is something I wish I could tell my younger self:

It Gets Better

Because I really needed to hear these words while I was in school and recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  I still remember how hard it was to come to a realization that the MS was never going to go away and in fact it could get worse than it already is.  It is a hard pill to swallow that at a such young age you have a disease that will never go away and you don’t know how it will end up affecting you.

What two words would you write to a younger you?

If you want to be apart of the writers workshop you can click here and find out all about it!

Update on Elinore & Sylvia

So I haven’t written about the cubs in awhile so I figured that I would do an update on Elinore & Sylvia and also introduce them to any new followers that I have that may not know who the cubs are.  I have 2 cats that I have always called the cubs because they tend to follow me around like bear cubs follow their mom’s.  Their names are Elinore & Sylvia.

Elinore

199540_1817229663179_8122711_n 15555_1243904890418_8100596_n

I adopted Elinore from “No More Homeless Pets” about 6 or 7 years ago.  She was abused before I got her.  She only has half a tail and the pads on her front feet look like they have been burned or something like that.  When I first got her she was super skittish and scared of most things.  She has slowly come out of that but she still doesn’t like feet and she isn’t a huge fan of males.  She also has start to have issues with using the litter box and I am not sure why she is having them so I can’t fix it.

Sylvia

I got Sylvia from one of my brothers ex-girlfriends and she is about 5 years old.  She is by far the craziest  cat I have had.  She hates to be held in fact she pretty much hates to do just about anything when she isn’t doing it on her own.  She only wants to be petted when she says so and at times that isn’t a great thing for us.  She loves to sit on my grandma’s chest and get petted at night and she takes a dime view of you not wanting to pet her when she says that it is time.  She also loves to play.  She would play all day if someone would sit there and play with her feather toy.
