Blogging

Most Challenging

Most Challenging This week I am going to write about 1.) The most challenging part about blogging for you is…  I chose this one because now I am really struggling with certain parts of blogging and I wanted to write about them because there are definitely challenges that go along with blogging.

The first thing I have struggled with when it comes to blogging is coming up topics to write about.  I do tons of reviews because I love to read and it was a great way to find new books to read.  It took me awhile to break into the review world but I am glad that I did.  Anyway let’s get back on topic.  Other than reviews I struggle with coming up with things to write about because I am scared to put certain things on my blog because I am worried about the reactions somethings could bring.  I have tried to get more personal when it comes to adoption and Multiple Sclerosis because I know I need to get my feeling out but it is hard to expose certain things about me and let other people in.

Another thing I am finding challenging is finding other blogs to read and comment on so that I can find more readers for my blog.  Since I don’t really have a blogging niche like some blogs do so I am struggling to find other blog’s that are like mine.  I know that people don’t read my blog a lot because of the book reviews but I love doing the reviews so I just need to find a better balance between reviews & personal post I guess.

Those are the things that I find most challenging about blogging now.  Things always change in my world but as for now those are the things that I find the most challenging.  If you have any advice please let me know!

What do you find most challenging about blogging now?

Best Thinking. . .

Best Thinking

I got the idea for this post from the blog Daily Post and the topic is:

When and where do you do your best thinking? In the bathroom? While running? Just before bed, or first thing in the morning? On the bus? Why do you think that is?

I chose this prompt because everyone has different places where they do their best thinking and I think it would be fun to find out where other people feel that they do their best thinking.  I have to be honest this post took me awhile to write because I wasn’t really sure where I did my best thinking until I stopped and really thought about it.

After thinking about it I came to see that I do my best thinking at night when I am should be sleeping which is probably one of the many reasons that I can’t sleep.  The minute I lay down my head starts going and I always get such great ideas for blog posts or other things I want/need to do.

I also find that for some reason I write the best blog posts while I am on my lunch break at work.  I am sure that is because my brain is already in work mode so it is easy to switch from doing work and writing a blog post pretty easily.  I am also lucky that my job doesn’t mind that  I blog as long as all my work is done.

So that is when I do my best thinking.  When and where do you do your best thinking?

Taking The Week Off!

Hi, My Name Is . . .

My Name Is . . .

This was a prompt from last weeks writers workshop and I had to write about it because it was such a fun topic and there are tons of things that could complete the sentence.  I think I am going to just list things that I am and then explain why on some of them.

  • Birth Mom-I placed my daughter for adoption when I was 20.
  • Blogger
  • Daughter
  • Mom to two crazy cats
  • Book lover
  • Introvert
  • Person who truly loves to be alone
  • Huge football fan-I will watch pretty much any game but I love the University of Utah & the Baltimore Ravens.
  • Suffer of an invisible illness-Multiple Sclerosis
  • College dropout
  • Blog Designer

Those are just the few things that came first to me.  I know I could go on and on with a list but no one has time to read that.

How would you answer the sentence?

5 Great Blogging Tips

Blogging Tips

Last week for the Writers Workshop one of the prompts was to list 5 of my favorite blogging tips.  I always love to read other people’s tips and tricks when it comes to blogging so I figured I would list a few of my own.  These are things that I also wish I would have known from the start.

  •  First before I started a blog I wish I would have picked a name and also known what I wanted to blog about.  I say this because it is so much easier to have all of this done before hand instead of trying to figure it all out once you have been blogging for a few years like I did.
  • Don’t get caught up in the numbers.  I spent a lot of time worried about the number of followers of my blog or the number of likes that my Facebook Page had.  For me this just turned blogging into some sort of popularity contest and made me want to stop blogging.  Once I stopped caring and started blogging for me I found the reason I started blogging in the first place.  Now I still love when I get comments or emails from people who read my blog but I don’t focus on those things because if I do I get discouraged and blogging becomes a chore instead of something I just love to do.
  • For me I always have to remind myself just to have fun and be true to who I am.  I have been blogging for years and only in the past year have I started to really just blog about things I want to.  I have lost readers because of the book reviews but it is something I truly love doing so I am going to continue them.
  • Know that people who know you in real life can and will find out about your blog so don’t blog about things you don’t want other people who know you to read.
  • It can take years to build a blog so don’t give up if you aren’t where others are.  It takes some people years to build their blogs and then others make it big fast.

Those are a few of the things I wish I would have known before I started blogging.

What do you wish you would have known before you started?

Things I Would Do Differently

Differently

This week for the writers workshop I wanted to write about things I would do differently if I started blogging again.

  • I think the first things I would have to do differently is not care about numbers.  As I look back now I see how much time I spent worrying about numbers and followers.  I spent a lot of time when I started blogging worrying about how many followers I had and the number of comments I would get on posts.  I have since learned that for me watching and worrying about numbers took the fun out of blogging for me so I try not to focus on those things anymore.
  • I also would have picked a name and tagline for my blog in the beginning instead of waiting a few years before I picked one.
  • I wish I would have done more research before I started  blogging.  When I started I had no idea about how big the blogging world was and things like that.  It took me a couple of years before I realized just how big blogging was and where I wanted to go with my own blogs.
  • I also wish I would have spent less time worrying about offending people and more time being true to me and who I am.  I am at a place now with blogging where I try not to offend anyone but I also am not going to not write about something in fear that it will offend someone.

Those are the only things I can think of that I would change if I could start again.

What would you change?
