Brave

I few weeks ago one of the prompts for the Writers Workshop was to write a post about the word brave.  I figured the first thing I would do is give you the definition of the word and then go into what the word means to me:

brave [breɪv] adj

1. having or displaying courage, resolution, or daring; not cowardly or timid

The word brave is something people say to be because of parts of my past but I don’t think of myself that way.  I have always felt I just did what I know I had to do.  Now the choices I have made were hard but because I chose them doesn’t make me brave at least not in my eyes.

I think that people who stand up for others are brave or people who do what is right to them even though their family and friends may not agree with them.  I think kids who are fighting cancer are brave because I don’t think I could deal with everything they go through and still be able to smile.  I think of the women in other countries who are fighting to have the same basic rights as men have. That is what brave means to me.

What does brave mean to you?

Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned

Last week one of the prompts for the writers workshop what about lessons that I have learned.  I really like this topic so I figured I would write about it today and let everyone know some of the lessons I have learned.

  1. I have learned that if something can go wrong it probably will go wrong.
  2. I never say “it  can’t get any worse” because trust me it will probably get worse.
  3. Things always seem to happen in sets of 3.
  4. People somehow know when you are having a bad day and do everything they can to get on your nerves.
  5. If I have a book review due and I haven’t started on the book yet I will get a migraine making me want to just kill myself as I am trying to read the book.
  6. Cops are the worst drivers.
  7. I always find something to laugh about when I am having a bad day because laughing is better than crying.
  8. Don’t give into people who just want to argue with you.  The one thing I learned from my ex husband was to just stare at the person who is pissed off and that is better than stooping down to their level.
  9. Always try to look on the positive side of things in your life.
  10. Don’t let total strangers get to you when they say mean things about you or to you.  If you don’t know the person than they don’t know you and since they don’t know you what they are saying isn’t true.
  11. Keep your friends and family close because you will need them.

Those are 11 things I have learned that I figured I would share with you.  What lesson have you learned that you would add to this list if you could?

First Concert

My First Concert

The first concert I attend (or at least I think it was my first) was NSYNC.  I was in 7th or 8th grade.  I went with one of my best friends back then.  I can still remember waiting in line to buy the tickets months and months before the show.  I remember every little detail about the show and remember how I was the day after the show.

I remember I was super sad and depressed because I had looked forward to going to see them for months and months and then it was over and I felt like I didn’t have anything else to look forward to.  I remember that my grandma laughed at me when I told her why I was sad and now that I look back at it I have to laugh as well.  It crazy how I looked at things when I was younger and how  big this concert was build up in my head.  I did go and see them one more time along with a few other boy bands that were popular at the time.

Now that I am an adult I tend to want to go and see more comedians than music stars.  I have seen Jeff Dunham twice and I loved every second of those shows.  I stake his website so I will know when he come back and my brother and I can go and see him again.  It is weird to me that I love music so much but the thought of going to a musical concert makes me head hurt now.  When I was younger I loved the loud music at concerts and now I don’t think I would be able to stay through the whole thing no matter how much I loved the show.

Who did you see for your first concert? Do you like to see comedians or music stars more?

A Few Books

What I Am Reading

So this week for the Writers Workshop one of the prompts was to write a book review and since I am always doing book reviews I figured I would just list a few of the posts from the past few weeks so you can check them out if you are new or may have missed them.

Those are just a few of the books I have been reading this past month or so.  I do want to say that I have a review for a book that will be live on Monday and it is by far the best book I have read in a long time.  If you love books like the Hunger Games & Divergent I know you will love this book!  So be on the lookout for that post on Monday!

I am always on the lookout for books to read so what books have you been loving?

Currently. . .

currently

This week I chose to write about number 2 which is: “Currently” a simple list of things you’re currently feeling as seen at Sometimes Sweet.

Reading: Right now I am reading a few different books to review.  Here is a list of a few of the ones I am reading: “The Letters” by Suzanne Woods Fisher, “Defending Wellton” by Kelli Kretzchmar, “Scarred Love” by M.S. Brannon.  I also have reviews coming up for some great books I have read the past few weeks.
Listening to: Right now I am listening to Country music mainly but I also am still loving Celtic Thunder and have been for the past few years.
Thinking about: I am thinking about a lot of crazy things that are going on in my life because I am not sure what is going on and what is going to happen in the next few months.  I wish I could write about the big thing but for now I can’t in respect for the others involved in the situation.
Watching: I am not really watching anything right now because I am not a huge TV fan.  I do love watching Lockup on MSNBC on Saturday nights but the past two weeks it hasn’t been on due to different things going on in the this country.  I also have been loving Dead Files on the Travel Channel.
Bummed out on: Watching people in my life struggling because of choices they made but it still hurts to watch them go through things I went through because they thought it wouldn’t happen to them.
Loving: I have been loving having this bunny is our backyard for the past few days.  We did catch him yesterday but I loved looking out into the background and seeing him there and also watching Sylvia stare at the shed in the backyard waiting to see it because she is interested in it and yet scared to death of it at the same time.
