Intelligence officer Garrett Downing is on the hunt for military goods that have gone missing. Instead, he finds himself coming to the aid of a young woman with more resourcefulness than common sense.

Isabelle has no choice but to accept a stranger’s help in getting home. Once there, however, as enemies turn into lovers, it soon becomes a game of keeping secrets. Garrett is more than he seems. Isabelle knows more than she’s willing to admit. Will she choose loyalty to her father over the love of a man who tells lies for a living?

About The Author

Multi-published author Paula Altenburg grew up in rural Nova Scotia knowing that at some point in her life she was likely to be a fiction writer. Swapping Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey books with her father guaranteed she wasn’t going to be the next Jane Austen, much to the dismay of her English teacher mother. A degree in Social Anthropology from the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, confirmed that writing was the most logical career path for her.

She’s worked in the Aerospace and Defense industry, which surprises everyone who knows her. She writes because she can’t keep a secret, and getting to pass everything off as fiction makes a good compromise. Happily married, with two terrific sons, she continues to live in rural Nova Scotia but makes a point of traveling as much as she can.

The Devils Cold Dish by Eleanor Kuhns

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Devils Cold Dish by Eleanor Kuhns was a great historical fiction book.  I loved this book, and for the first time in a while, I didn’t get bored while reading a historical fiction book.  This the 5 book in the series but you have to read them in order because this is the first book I read, and I had no problem following along with what is going on in it.  This is the first book that I have read by this author, and I can’t wait until I have the time to check out her other books.  She wrote in such a way that I forgot from time to time that I was reading a historical fiction book.  I loved that she was able to do that because it made the book fly by and I was able to read in just a few days.  If you aren’t the biggest fan of historical fiction books than I would tell you to give this book a shot because I think it is one that most people would enjoy even if this isn’t their favorite genre to read.

About The Book

In the next 1790s historical mystery from MWA Award winner Eleanor Kuhns, Will Rees’ small farm town begins to suspect his wife of murder by witchcraft

Will Rees is back home on his farm in 1796 Maine with his teenage son, his pregnant wife, their five adopted children, and endless farm work under the blistering summer sun. But for all that, Rees is happy to have returned to Dugard, Maine, the town where he was born and raised, and where he’s always felt at home. Until now. When a man is found dead – murdered – after getting into a public dispute with Rees, Rees starts to realize someone is intentionally trying to pin the murder on him. Then, his farm is attacked, his wife is accused of witchcraft, and a second body is found that points to the Rees family. Rees can feel the town of Dugard turning against him, and he knows that he and his family won’t be safe there unless he can find the murderer and reveal the truth…before the murderer gets to him first.

Never Forget by Richard Davis

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Never Forget by Richard Davis was a good book.  This is the second book in the series, but in my opinion, you don’t need to read the books to know what is happening.  I did understand the backstory of the main character which I always like but you don’t need the information while reading this book.  I was as drawn into this story as I was when I read False Prophet but I still did enjoy this book.  I also loved that I got to see Saul again because I love following along with characters because that makes them feel even more like real people.  Parts of this book remind me of the Jack Reacher books which I love, but I also am tired of the series because he should be dead by now.

Anyway, let’s get back to my thoughts on this book.  I really do enjoy this author writing, and I love that he includes some British slang in his books.  When that happened, it always made me smile because I am so used to hearing the words on YouTube and they always make me happy.  If you love mystery books, I would for sure recommend this book to you.

About The Book

Saul Marshall is on the run.

As a wave of seemingly random assassinations engulfs California, Marshall finds himself drawn into a situation spiraling out of control.

He soon discovers some of the webs’ most secure protocols have been compromised by a rogue team of former Chinese agents. When Marshall realizes what they plan, the stakes are raised…

And that’s before the Secretary of State gets involved. Can Marshall unravel the deceit and tricks before it’s too late? Can he stop the carnage, or will he become part of it? One thing is for certain: either way his enemies will never forget.

Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Michael Connelly or J.B. Turner, this is a compulsive and page-turning thriller that won’t let you go.

About The Author

Richard Davis was born in 1990 and grew up in north London. In 2011 he graduated from UCL and Cambridge University. His fascination with America stems from a series of childhood holidays there, which saw him tour both the east and west coasts. After returning to the States a number of times since, and, developing an intense interest in American-style thrillers, he made the decision to write one himself.

Operation Scorpion by John Beyer

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Operation Scorpion by John Beyer was an okay book.  It wasn’t one of my favorites that I have read lately, but it still was a book I think most people would enjoy it.  I say this because since this book is in my favorite genre to read and I am pretty picky when I read books like this one.  I did enjoy this author writing and his characters.  I was able to look at the characters like they are real people which I always enjoy because it gets me emotionally invested in the characters and what happens to them.  I wouldn’t mind reading more books by this author, and I would also love to read more books that involve these characters as well.  I was also able to read this book in a few days as well.  If you love mystery books, I would for sure recommend this author to you.

Deadly Spirits by E. Michael Helms

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Deadly Spirits by E. Michael Helms was a book I didn’t think I would like, but in the end, I loved the book and the authors writing. I read a ton of books in this genre, so I always go in thinking that I am not going to like the books, but this one surprised me, to say the least.  I loved that this book brought in ghosts and things like that because it gave the book something different that I haven’t seen before.  I was a huge fan of Mac right from the start, so I am going to go back and read the other books in this series because I really enjoyed this book and the characters.  This book was one that I know I will read again, and I know I will be picking up rest of the books because this is a great series.  If you are looking for a different type of mystery book to read this summer, then I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

About The Book

When PI Mac McClellan’s girlfriend convinces him to join the Palmetto Paranormal Society, he becomes embroiled in a case of whooodunnit. The society president, while investigating an old hotel, is found dead at the foot of the stairwell, his neck broken. The man’s secretary and current squeeze stands horrified beside his body. Authorities rule the death an accident. Mac has doubts—no one heard the man tumbling down the stairs. Then the secretary dies in an apparent suicide. Two deaths in two paranormal investigations, and not a peep out of either victim. Mac suspects there’s more going on than a vengeful spirit.
Book 4 in the Mac McClellan Mystery series, which began with Deadly Catch.

About The Author

I was born in Georgia way back in the last century but grew up and lived most of my life in Panama City, Florida. In 2004 my wife and I moved to the Upstate region of South Carolina in the shadows of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, a land of stunning vistas and numerous waterfalls.

I’ve been traditionally published since 1990 when my Vietnam War memoir, The Proud Bastards, was published. It’s about my time as a combat U.S. Marine in 1967-68. It’s still in print after all these years, currently with Simon & Schuster/Pocket. I’ve since written a few novels in different genres. I’m currently writing the Mac McClellan Mystery series which is set along the coast of the Florida Panhandle where I grew up.

Driver Confessional by David L. Winters

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Litfuse in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Driver Confessional by David L Winters was a fun book to read.  I loved that this book had things that are actually happening or things that really exist.  I love when authors just change the name of a service or product in their books, but everyone knows what the author is talking about.  I also enjoyed this book because it was such a different type of story in the fact that it has to do with a guy that is a driver because I can only imagine all of the stories that cab drivers and people like them have to tell.  I also really enjoyed this authors writing.  I really liked Antonio right from the start because he seemed like someone that I could relate to and I really enjoyed that.  If you are looking for a different type of mystery book to read I would recommend this book to you.

He has an unusual gift for relaxing his customers and stimulating their desire to reveal more than they planned. By the completion of their ride, many feel so comfortable that they confess their sins great and small. Antonio’s faith guides his discussions and points him in new directions. Suddenly, his peaceful world is turned upside down by a mysterious business woman. As she heads to a midnight rendezvous, she confesses more than Antonio can handle. Her story sends him into a world of espionage, international terrorism, and danger.
