All Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm Promotions in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

All Lies by Andrew Cunningham was a great book once I got over the narrators’ voice.  His voice bugged me for the first couple of chapters but once I was a few chapters his voice had grown on me.  Now that I am a few hours into the second book I can’t really remember why I originally didn’t like this voice.  I loved how this book started which is one of the reasons that I kept listening even when I wasn’t sure about the voice of the narrator.  I am glad that I kept going because I love the plot and the author’s writing. I do have to say that once it was a week or so from when I finished the book I can’t really remember how it ended which means that at least for me this book was super memorable but I do know that I did enjoy it.  Like I said before the first chapter of this book made me smile and that is one of the only things that I remember about this book. I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who is looking for something to listen to this winter.

Those were the last words his father uttered before dying, and from what he knew of his family tree and the unfortunate end that came to so many of his ancestors, Del Honeycutt couldn’t disagree. What he didn’t know was that his family held dark secrets – secrets that were about to come crashing down upon him.

A seemingly innocent date gone tragically wrong plunges Del into a web of murder, lies, greed, and a hidden fortune dating back to a crime committed 85 years earlier by his great-grandfather. Accompanied by Sabrina, the sister of Del’s brutally murdered date, a violent journey of discovery and fear begins. Pursued by vicious killers intent on eliminating anyone with knowledge of the 85-year-old crime, their only hope of survival is to find the reason behind the original crime and why, decades later, someone is still willing to kill to keep it hidden. But Sabrina is concealing a monstrous lie of her own. Is she who she says she is?

About The Author

Andrew Cunningham

I’m the author of novels in several genres, including, mystery, thriller, and post-apocalyptic science fiction. Under the name A.R. Cunningham, I’ve also written the Arthur MacArthur series of mysteries for children.

I was born in England, but have spent most of my life living in the U.S.—including 25 years on Cape Cod before moving to Florida. A former interpreter for the deaf and long-time independent bookseller, I’ve been a full-time freelance writer and copy editor for many years. A 4th-degree Master Black belt in Tang Soo Do, I finally retired from active training when my body said, “Enough already! Why are you doing this to yourself?” I’m married, with two grown children and two awesome grandsons. My wife and I spend as much time traveling as we can, and are especially fond of cruising the Caribbean.

I have been gratified by the response to my books. When I published Eden Rising back in the spring of 2013, I had no idea what to expect. When I sold my first few copies, I was excited beyond belief that someone was willing to take a chance on it. Numerous books and thousands of copies later, I am still humbled by the emails I get from readers telling me that my books kept them up late into the night.

In October of 2014, Wisdom Spring made me an official Amazon Bestselling author, a thrill I never thought would happen. But it still comes down to being able to bring a few hours of escape to a reader. That’s what it’s all about for me.

I hope you will try my books. Please feel free to email me with your comments.

A Mother’s Lie by Jo Crow

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partner’s In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

A Mother’s Lie by Jo Crow was an audiobook that once I started listening to it I didn’t stop until I finished it.  I loved this book right from the start and once it was over I missed Clara because I really enjoyed her personality.  I also enjoyed the narrator that was used for this audiobook.  I enjoyed her voice and that is part of the reason that enjoyed this book as much as I did.  One of the things that I have been loving about audiobooks is the fact that I can turn the reading speed up so that I can listen to the book faster than what it is originally read it.  I used to hate how slow audiobooks went but now that I can I increase the speed I love them.  I am lucky to have a job where I can listen to books as I work so they are becoming one of my favorite ways to read books.

Anyway, let’s get back to the review of this book.  It took me a day and a half to get through this book because once I started listening I didn’t want to stop listening until I was through with the book and I know how it all ended.  I know that I am going to listen to more books by this narrator because I loved her voice and I am also going to read more books by this author because I loved this book and her style of writing.  If you are looking for a good thriller to read this October I would say pick this one up but even more than that I would say check out the audiobook version of this book because it is amazing, and I loved it.  Do you like listening to audiobooks and if so who is your favorite narrator.

The Twofer Murder by Lauren Carr

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from iRead Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Twofer Murder by Lauren Carr was another great book.  I have reviewed several other books by this author, and I have liked all of them.   I always worry as I read more and more books because I figure at some point I will find a book that I don’t like so I still fear that the book I am reading is the one that doesn’t like.  I love how all of her books intertwine so that you always basically know who everyone is and how they are all related to each other.  I am a huge fan of Mac and his dog Gnarly, so I always love when they are in the book as well.  This book didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat, but I also wasn’t able to figure out how it ended so I always enjoy books like that.  I loved just about everything about this book, and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series.

The Murder at Astaire Castle by Lauren Carr

iRead Website new logo

FTC: I received a free copy of this audio book from iRead Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Murders at Astaire Castle by Lauren Carr was a good audiobook. I don’t listen to many audiobooks, so this was a nice change of pace for me. I like the narrator’s voice in this book, and I felt like he really could have been the main character in the book. I did at one point have to make it go faster because at times I felt like he was just talking to slow that I got bored or distracted as I will listening to it. After I had turned up the speed of the book, I did enjoy this book even more than at the start. I am starting to love listening to audiobooks like this one while I am driving to and from work each day. I have a pretty long commute, and I find when I am listening audiobooks I don’t get as angry at other drivers. I have read one other book in this series, but with that being said you don’t have to read them in order or even read them all if some of the books don’t interest you. At times I thought this book was trying too hard to be scary and I didn’t like that about the book. All in all, it was a good book and I am sure I will be checking out other books in this series because I am a huge of Gnarly in the series. If you love mystery books than I know, you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

About The Book

Never tell Mac Faraday not to do something.

Spencer’s police chief, David O’Callaghan, learns this lesson the hard way when he orders Mac Faraday to stay away from the south end of Spencer’s mountaintop – even though he owns the property. It doesn’t take long for Mac to find out what lies on the other side of the stone wall and locked gate, on which hangs a sign warning visitors to Keep Out!

Topping the list of the 10 top haunted places in America, Astaire Castle is associated with two suicides, three mysterious disappearances, and four murders since it was built almost a century ago – and Mac Faraday owns it!

In spite of David’s warning, Mac can’t resist unlocking the gate to see the castle that supposedly hasn’t seen a living soul since his late mother had ordered it closed up after the double homicide and disappearance of Damian Wagner, a world-famous master of horror novels.

What starts out as a quick tour of a dusty old castle turns into another Mac Faraday adventure when Astaire Castle becomes the scene of even more murders. Mac is going to need to put all of his investigative talents to work to sort out this case that involves the strangest characters he has run into yet – including a wolf man. No, we’re not talking about Gnarly.

What To Do?

What To DoIt is fall in Utah which means it will soon be snowing.  I saw a prompt that asked what I did on a dark and stormy day and I figured it would be a good topic to write about because that type of weather will soon be taking over in Utah.  There aren’t a ton of things that I do when it is storming out but a few things that I really do enjoy doing.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this prompt was I love to watch football when it is stormy and nasty out.  I don’t think there are many things better than curling up and watching a good football game when it is cold and nasty out.  On with that theme I also love to just put on a good movie or even watch reruns of my favorite shows curled up in bed.  I love not having to go out and being able to watch it storm and be warm and comfortable in my house watching TV.

The only other thing that I really love doing when it is storming is to get whatever book I am reading and find a warm spot to sit and finish the book.  I love being able to read books when it is gross outside because I can read about warm places and forget for a while that it is snowing and freezing outside for a little while.  I also have started to love listening to audiobooks because there are days where my head hurts so bad that I can’t read but being able to listen to an audiobook is great for passing the time as well.

Those are a few things that I love to do when it is stormy and gross out.  What do you like to do when it is storming outside?
