Operation Scorpion by John Beyer was an okay book. It wasn’t one of my favorites that I have read lately, but it still was a book I think most people would enjoy it. I say this because since this book is in my favorite genre to read and I am pretty picky when I read books like this one. I did enjoy this author writing and his characters. I was able to look at the characters like they are real people which I always enjoy because it gets me emotionally invested in the characters and what happens to them. I wouldn’t mind reading more books by this author, and I would also love to read more books that involve these characters as well. I was also able to read this book in a few days as well. If you love mystery books, I would for sure recommend this author to you.
PI Frank Sanders is “blown away” by the woman who strolls into his office one morning. Not only is she drop-dead-gorgeous, she’s also rich and willing to pay whatever it takes for him to find her missing father, world-famous geologist Dr. Stephen Jaspers who went rock hunting in the desert and hasn’t been heard from since. A retired Riverside California Police Department detective, Frank is used to searching for people. He takes the case, assuming it’s a simple missing person. But what he uncovers is more than he bargained for, leading him to suspect that he’s about to be blown away—literally, this time—along with everyone else in Southern California.
John R. Beyer spent years in law enforcement in Southern California as a street cop, a training officer and a member of the elite SWAT team. After leaving the force, he continued in public service entering the field of education. During his tenure, he served as classroom teacher, school administrator and district administrator. While in both worlds he earned a Doctorate in School Administration and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
During all those years, he never gave up the passion for writing – both fiction and nonfiction. He has been published in numerous magazines, newspapers and the like for decades on a variety of topics.
He is the author of three highly praised internationally known novels – Hunted (2013), Soft Target (2014) and Operation Scorpion (2017). All deal with law enforcement (both local and federal level) intrigues – murder, mayhem, terrorism, and humor can be found in all three novels.
His latest short stories for the past year can be found in Foliate Oak Literary Magazine (2016) and GNU Journal (2017).
He has had countless interviews on radio and blog spots – Marilyn’s Musings, CJEvolution, Twisted Webb Radio, Webbweaver Books, Book Readers Heaven, and WOCA – The Source, to name but a few.
John is on the constant move of stretching fiction to the limits in his writing and to strive to tell the tales which need to be told.

More Than A Soldier by D.M. Annechino was a fantastic book. Anyone who has followed my reviews for just about any length of time knows that I love any book that has to do with WWII and this book was no different. This book is based on a true story, and I loved it because I love knowing that a real person had lived through the things that happened in this book. I have read other books by this author, and I really do enjoy his writing. I can’t say enough good things about this book because I am such a love of books like this one. I loved that as I was reading this book, I felt like I was there with Angelo and I felt like I was there with him. I was able to understand how he was feeling because the author did such a great job making you feel like you are with the character. If you are looking for a new WWII book to read this summer, I think that you will love this book just as much as I do.
Feeling a patriotic duty to defend his country after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, seventeen-year-old, Angelo J. DiMarco, enlists in the U.S. Army. Severely short of frontline fighters, the Army rushes Angelo through Ranger training and sends him to Italy as part of the 1st Ranger Battalion. Their objective: stop the German invasion.
Fighting on the front lines in Italy, the German’s teach Angelo a sobering lesson on life when they capture him during the bloody Battle of Cisterna. Against insurmountable odds, Angelo miraculously escapes in a way that stretches the imagination. He survives behind enemy lines for over five months, hiding from the Germans and trying to outmaneuver them. He begs for food, sleeps in barns and suffers from many ailments, including dehydration, malnutrition, malaria, and exposure to the elements.
More Than a Soldier is Angelo DiMarco’s powerful story of survival, resilience, and courage.
Daniel M. Annechino, a former book editor, wrote his first book, How to Buy the Most Car for the Least Money, while working as a General Manager in the automobile business. He has written and published five novels—all thrillers. But his latest work, More Than a Soldier, is a Historical Biography set in Italy during WWII.
A native of New York, Annechino now lives in San Diego with his wife, Jennifer. He loves to cook, enjoys a glass of vintage wine, and spends lots of leisure time on the warm beaches of Southern California.

SEALs of Honor: Chase by Dale Mayer was a book I knew I would love just from the cover of it. These are the types of books I will pick up when I want a book that I can get lost in. There is something about this genre of book, and I usually end up buying them so when I saw I could get this one to review I knew I had to get a copy. I enjoyed everything about this author and her books. I am so glad to have found her because I know have another author to read books by. I loved this author’s style of writing and how she was able to get me interested right from the first page. I would say that this book is predictable, but most books are for me at this point because I have read so many of them. I also really enjoyed her characters, and I found that I was looking at them as if they were real people. I know that if you love chick lit books and books that have military people in them than I know you will love this book as much as I do.
This is the next installment in the SEALs of the Honor series.

The Kill Sign by Nichole Christoff was a good book. I took a few chapters for me to get into the book but I am glad that I stuck with it because in the end, I did end up enjoying the story. This is the fourth book in the Jamie Sinclair series and the first one that I have read. That being said I understood everything that was going on, so you don’t have to read the books in order if you don’t want to. It is a slow started, but after I few chapters I didn’t want to put it down. This book did keep me on the edge of my seat, and it was one that I found myself staying up way too late because I hate putting books like this down when things are happening so fast. This is the first book I have read by this author and since this is the fourth book in the series I will be reading the other books in the series in the future.

Northern Light by Annette O’Hare was an interesting book. This book was an easy book to read but at times it seemed rushed, and I wished that they would have taken more time explaining certain things. Even with that being said I still really enjoyed this story. I was always laughing at some of the antics that June with pull. I spent a good part of the book just laughing about things she said. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Margaret, and I am not sure why. She annoyed me right from the start of the book, but it wasn’t so bad that I didn’t want to read the book. I like Thomas, but I am usually a big fan of characters that are from Ireland. All in all, this was an excellent book, and if you like historical fiction, I would say check this one out and see what you think of it.
Civil War has robbed Margaret Logan of all she holds dear, including her beloved New Orleans home and her fiancé. When her family moves to the desolate Bolivar Peninsula to manage a lighthouse that is no longer there, all her hopes for a normal future are dashed. Her world is rocked once again when a wounded Yankee soldier washes ashore needing her help. Despite her contempt for the North, Margaret falls in love with Thomas Murphy. As their love blooms, Margaret’s sister is overcome with neurosis, and her mind slowly slips away. Bitterness, psychosis and depression yield a decision fueled by contempt. Will one fatal choice cause Margaret to lose the man she loves and condemn Thomas to death?
Growing up in Houston, Texas in the 1970’s, Annette loved the stories about ghosts haunting the Spaghetti Warehouse and the mysterious “blue light” cemetery. But it was “Devil’s Island,” the magical woods across from home where her imagination blossomed. She created fantastic scenarios to act out with her brother and the neighborhood kids where worlds were conquered and dragons were slain. Annette is still making up stories, and is looking forward to the release of her first historical romance with Pelican Book Group. Her love for the history and heritage of her home state of Texas shines through in her writing and she’s made it the backdrop for her book series. Annette is a longtime member of American Christian Fiction Writers and her local chapter, ACFW-Writers on the Storm. She lives north of Houston with her husband, Dan of 30 years. Dan and Annette are the proud parents of two Texas A&M graduates, one exceedingly imaginative high schooler, and two rambunctious, loveable rescue dogs.
