To Win Her Favor by Tamera Alexander

Book Review

To Win Her Favor by Tamera Alexander was a great historical fiction book.  I loved this book from the first chapter right up until the last page.  There are historical fiction books that I just can’t get into because I don’t understand the time period but this isn’t one of those.  This is the first book I have read by this author I can’t wait to check out other books she has written because she does a great job of making me feel like I am there with the characters.  This is the second  book in the “Belle Meade Plantation” series and I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not reading the first book in the series.   This book was an easy read but still kept my attention which at times can be hard to do.  If you love historical fiction that you will want to check out this great book!

To Win Her Favor

About The Book

To Win Her Favor (Zondervan, May 2015)

A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who could help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing forever.

An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He’s come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and begin farming, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he’d wagered, especially when Maggie Linden’s father makes him an offer he shouldn’t accept yet cannot possibly refuse.

Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance—and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder—Maggie’s father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail—Maggie must marry a man she’s never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

Side by Side by Jana Kelley

Book Review

Side by Side by Jana Kelley was a very unique book.  I have never read a book like this one before and I have to say that I think more people should write books like this one.  I didn’t want this book to end because it was so interesting watching the characters grow and learn about other people and their personal beliefs.  I love how this book was inspired by things that the author went through so that always makes the book seem more real or at least it does to me.  This was a great book and I was sad when it came to the end of the book.  I would recommend this book to everyone who is looking for an interesting book or a unique idea because this was both of those things.

A Sparrow in Terezin by Kristy Cambron

Book Review

A Sparrow in Terezin by Kristy Cambron was a great book to read.  This book takes place during modern times and also during WWII which means that it is pretty much guaranteed that I am going to like it.  I also read the first book in the series so if you missed that review you can click here to check out it.  You don’t have to read that book first to understand this book but it would be helpful.  I love how this books goes between two different time periods and really gives you the best of both worlds so to speak.  I love this authors writing and how she weaves both time periods together so seamlessly.    If you love WWII than I would for sure recommend both books to you!

A Sparrow in Terezin

About The Book

A Sparrow in Terezin (Thomas Nelson, April 2015)

Bound together across time, two women will discover a powerful connection through one survivor’s story of hope in the darkest days of a war-torn world.

Present Day—With the grand opening of her new art gallery and a fairytale wedding just around the corner, Sera James feels she’s stumbled into a charmed life—until a brutal legal battle against fiancé William Hanover threatens to destroy the perfectly planned future she’s planned before it even begins. Now, after an eleventh-hour wedding ceremony and a callous arrest, William faces a decade in prison for a crime he never committed, and Sera must battle the scathing accusations that threaten her family and any hope for a future.

1942—Kája Makovsky narrowly escaped occupied Prague in 1939, and was forced to leave her half-Jewish family behind. Now a reporter for the Daily Telegraph in England, Kája discovers the terror has followed her across the Channel in the shadowy form of the London Blitz. When she learns Jews are being exterminated by the thousands on the continent, Kája has no choice but to return to her mother city, risking her life to smuggle her family to freedom and peace.

Connecting across a century through one little girl, a Holocaust survivor with a foot in each world, these two women will discover a kinship that springs even in the darkest of times. In this tale of hope and survival, Sera and Kája must cling to the faith that sustains and fight to protect all they hold dear—even if it means placing their own futures on the line.

A Hearts Obsession by Colleen Coble

Book Review

A Hearts Obsession by Colleen Coble was a fun book.  I have read and reviewed the first book in this series so if you missed that review you can click right here and check it out.  Now lets get on to the review for this book.  I was excited when I received this book because I had to know what was going to happen in this book.  Now that I have finished this book I feel like I am left hanging and I hate when that happens.  It is a good thing because it keeps me reading but it is hard when I have to wait a few weeks in between reading the books.  I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the new characters that were introduced in this book but I am going to be interested to see how things turn out for them and what happens in the next books.  This book was only 100 pages which is nice because I can read the whole thing in a few hours and feel like I accomplished something.  If you love historical fiction books than I would for sure recommend this one to you.

How To Catch a Prince by Rachel Hauck

Book Review

How To Catch a Prince by Rachel Hauck is the third book in this series and I loved it just like I loved the first 2.  If you didn’t catch my reviews of them you can click here and here to read them.  This are like modern fairy tales and I love that about the books.  I wasn’t a huge fan of Prince Stephen through most of the book because he struck me as coward but in the end he redeems himself.  I loved Corina from the very first page right through the end of the book.  Now this book is the third in the series but you don’t have to have read the other two to know what is going on in this book.  I love all the stories of these books and if you love contemporary fiction and/or romance books than I know you will love this book!

A Hearts Disguise by Colleen Coble

Book Review

A Hearts Disguise by Colleen Coble was a super cute story.  I love that this book was short because I was able to read the whole book in about an hour or so and that is perfect for me lately.  This is the first  book in the series and I can’t wait for the rest of books to come out because this book kind of left me hanging and I hate when books do that.  Now that being said it left me wanting to read the next book because I have to know what happens next to the characters in the book.  I also love that this won’t be the last time that I see these characters because I did fall in love with them and I have to know what happens next to each of them.  If you love historical fiction than I would for sure recommend this book to you.
