Gunner was planning to propose, and it all went to hell. Now he’s boots-deep into an investigation with ties to the Dirty Southern Mafia and corrupt cops. Yep, Laney is definitely gonna have his hide. Especially when she finds out just how much he’s been keeping from her…

But Laney has a weakness for Gunner’s delectable cowboy hotness. And for him, she will break every rule in the book—including the ones she’s sworn to uphold.

See where the sparks began to fly with book 1 of the Deputy Laney Briggs series, Pretty Reckless.

Her gaze fell to my ass, then rose to my face. “I didn’t know a case of blue balls was on the dinner menu for the evening.”

Ouch. In response to her question, I tipped my hat and said, “Darling, I can’t help it if the good Lord made me healthily endowed.”

Her eyebrow arched. “Oh my god, you’re thinking about me naked.”

Naked. Up against the wall. Screaming my name. Hell, I’d take any one of them and not in a particular order.

“Well, yeah.”

“That could become a real big problem.”

“Tell me about it.”

Laney laughed, the girly sound of her voice making the strain beating down my fly even more painful. “Because I’m thinking about whether the townsfolk will disapprove of me sending another load of rock salt into your ass.”

She must’ve noticed the wince that slipped from my lips, because her upper lip twitched in an attempt to suppress that pretty plump smile of hers.

I shrugged a shoulder. “They would, I promise.”

“Really?” She stepped in closer and ran a hand down my chest, sending every single cell in my body humming let’s have sex. “I probably could convince them it was an accident,” she said, tossing me a cute wink.

There’d be no argument from me on that accurate assessment. Maybe if I played my cards right on the ride over to our house she’d hear me out. God, I was gonna have to master a skill and learn to swallow my pride this time around.

“If you give me a ride, I’ll confess to whatever questions asked.”

The car keys dangled in her petite hands—the same hands that held the power to drive me nuts by simply squeezing my ass. She looked around, almost nervous about what to say next, then fitted me with an icy stare capable of sawing me in two. “Well, cowboy, it looks like you’re in luck. I know just the place to drop ya off at.”

Pathetic, how much I enjoyed that nickname

Silently Broken by Maegan Abel

SB_BlitzBadge

Silently Broken by Maegan Abel was a good book.  This is the 2nd book in the series and you can read this book without reading the first book but if I could recommend one thing I would say to read the books in order.  I was able to figure out what was going on but it would have been easier if I had read the first book.  There are parts where things didn’t make sense because of the fact that I didn’t know the back story.  I really did enjoy this book even when I was lost.  The author did a great job of helping me understand why the characters did what they did.  I love when authors can make me feel like I am there with the characters and this author was able to do that.  If you love thrillers than I know you will love this book.

About The Author

Maegan despises writing about herself in the third person. She also hates touting her accomplishments like she thinks she’s really done anything special…

Now that we got that out of the way, I’ll tell you what you need to know. I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I went back to school in my late twenties and studied Stage Production Technology. I now work full-time in the alterations shop of a major department store and part-time backstage in the various theatres around the area.

I’ve been an avid reader from a very young age and the top goal on my list of things to accomplish in my life was to write and publish a book. During the summer of 2013, while working backstage on The Lion King, I read eleven books in four weeks. I read my first New Adult book and was introduced to a genre I felt I could totally relate to. The idea for Perfectly Broken and the character of Lili was born backstage during that time.

Never Said by Carol Lynch Williams

Book Review

Never Said by Carol Lynch Williams was a very interesting book.  I really enjoyed this book and it was a super quick read because it is a YA fiction.  This was a great break from the books I have read.  I loved that the author didn’t shy away from topics that kids really have to deal with in today’s society.  I love when authors take on hard to talk about subjects because it opens the door for people to talk about them.  I loved seeing how Sarah & Annie interacted and how much they changed from the start of the book right up until the end of the book.  I felt like I could relate to Sarah the most because we have very similar personalities.  If you love YA fiction or you have a teenager in your life you need to read this book.

His pack worries for him, but they too have suffered a devastating blow. Praise for the Wolves of Willow Bend series:

“Long dished out a lot of unexpected twists and turns and did a great job tying it all together. The build-up and bits of action kept me up late at night flipping the pages.” – Booked & Loaded

“ROGUE WOLF is a fast paced, intriguing look into the world of shifters. Salvatore is old world a bit stodgy and Margo is very much new world and on top of that a lone wolf and Enforcer. How is it possible that these two could be mates? In author Heather Long’s vivid and fun imagination it’s very easy.” – Fresh Fiction

Excerpt from River Wolf:

So not ready to be awake…

A knock on the door intruded in her drifting and she groaned. Dammit, she was a guest. She couldn’t stay in bed all day. In fact, what she needed to do was get up, shower, dress and get her ass on the road. Florida seemed a hell of a long way to go, though. Rolling over, she shoved the blankets away then climbed out of the bed. Glaring at the light between the curtains, she rubbed a hand over her face, then stumbled to the door.

Opening it a crack, she gazed at her host. Goddammit. He looked perfect. Dressed in a clean, nicely pressed shirt with the top two buttons open to reveal the faint curls of dark against his chest and smelling like heaven, he looked good enough to eat. His hair wasn’t even damp, though it fell in a soft wave toward his forehead. He’d been up long enough to shower and dress—and he wore a smile.

“Ugh,” she sighed. “Please God tell me you are not one of those happy morning people.”

The corner of his sensual mouth quirked higher. The effect on his expression devastated her sleepy senses. No human should ever look so damn good without coffee. The combination of rake and boy next door added to his appeal, but the trace of scars and mottled skin gave him a ruggedness she desperately wanted to smooth away. “I woke you.”

“Not exactly,” she admitted, rubbing her cheek against the door and leaning on it a little more heavily. Everything ached and she wanted to go back to sleep. “I’m used to getting by on a lot less sleep.” And rolling out of bed to go to work for eight hour shifts that as often as not turned into ten to twelve hours on her feet. “I think I am tireder than I thought.” She yawned the last three words, and when she glanced at him again, his expression softened.

Extending a finger, he traced the line of her cheek and it was a soothing motion, one which had her eyes half-closing in pleasure. “Go back to bed, Colby.” His voice washed over her. “I’ll be in my office working.”

“I can’t laze about in bed all day.” No matter how good it sounded.

“Why not?”

“Because…” She had to go to Florida or at least say her goodbyes. She was a guest and not even an intentional one. “…Luc. I should probably check on him.”

“He’s fine, the doctor is with him.” The indulgence in his voice evaporated, but the steadiness in his tone remained. “Go sleep. When you wake up, come find me. We’ll have coffee.”

Tempting. So. So. Tempting. “I’m up now…but coffee sounds like heaven. Really, really strong coffee.”

“Double pot? I made one, I can run it through again.”

Colby groaned at the idea. Now that he’d mentioned it, she could smell the coffee. It proved even more alluring than the sweet vanilla and jasmine entwining the pine of his cologne on her pillow. Releasing the door to stretch, she would have thumped her tail if she’d had one. “Yes, please. If it wouldn’t be too much to ask.”

Silence greeted her comment, and she found Brett gazing at her. Rapt admiration in his eyes as he trailed his gaze down her body and up again.

Fuck me… She still only wore a t-shirt and panties and she’d just given him a show. “Crap. Sorry.” Slamming the door shut, she leaned against it. Adrenaline burned through the remaining traces of sleepiness, adrenaline and a healthy dose of lust. Having him look at her like that warmed inside and out.

“Please,” his voice stroked her through the door. “Don’t apologize. I’ll go fix the coffee. Come and find me.”

The invitation had her toes curling and she bit her lip. “I will,” she said, then added in a low whisper. “I promise.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

A shiver skated over her spine and she closed her eyes. Maybe she should have invited him inside to go back to bed with her. Inappropriate as hell, and impulsive, but she bet Brett would wake her even better than the coffee.

He already has…

Mind Over Bullies by D.K. Smith

iRead Book Tour Logo Medium

Mind Over Bullies by D.K. Smith was an interesting book to read.  I had a hard time getting into this book and I am not 100% sure why.  I love that he tackled this topic and wrote a book about bullying because not many authors even touch this subject.  I had a hard time reading this book because there are parts where it switched characters and it would take me a minute to figure out who was talking and things like that.  Other than that I did like this book and I think it is a book that all teenagers should have to read because it might help cut down on the amount of bullying that happens as kids are growing up today.  This book was an easy read and even though it was a bigger book it didn’t take my that long to finish it.  If you have teenagers I think you should have them read this book.

Mind Over Bullies

About The Book

People that feel bullied just need to toughen up. That’s what Margo Rios used to think. Margo is pretty, popular and unsympathetic to just how intense bullying can get. As a counterfeiting plot sweeps through the city of Oak View however, life for Margo changes dramatically.

With the mystery unfolding, an unlikely group of heroes emerges. Bullied teens love them, the police hate them and bullies fear them. Together they will try to get to the bottom of the counterfeiting mystery while ingeniously teaching a few bullies a lesson or two along the way… that is, if the police don’t catch them first.

“Mind Over Bullies: A MOB Forms” follows the lives of several teens chronicling the emotional and psychological changes they experience as a result of their encounters with bullying. The lives of the characters play out while an elaborate counterfeiting mystery unfolds making for a fast paced, action-packed read.

About The Author

A 38 year old native of Los Angeles, Mr. Smith began his writing career after getting news that he would soon become an uncle. Wanting to create stories and characters for his expected niece, he created the children’s book series “Sock n Boots Adventures.” The two characters (three year old Sock and five year old Boots) began to make names for themselves, generating downloads in countries around the world.

When asked about his motivation to tackle the subject of bullying in a 108,000 word novel Smith said, “One day I came across a story in the news about a young girl that jumped in front of a subway train after weeks of bullying. As I investigated further, I was shocked at the number of similar stories I encountered. Bullycide, the news was calling it. I thought, wow, what if these young people had been shown that the pain of bullying can be handled without hurting themselves or someone else.”

Ultimately it was thoughts of his now four nieces and three nephews dealing with bullying as they get older that weighed heavily on the decision for Smith to write the story about bullying. “I recognize that the characters and situations in the book may not represent every bullying situation and that realistically the book won’t change the world, but I do sincerely hope that it sends a subtle message about there being life after bullying. We’ll just have to see how the public receives it,” Smith said.

A lover of mystery and espionage stories, Smith is a fan of everything James Bond. A favorite scenario is to see a character in an impossible situation get out of it at the last second or have the odds against them and see he or she turn the tables. Acting on the love of espionage and mystery, Smith has a new novel in the works centering on a James Bond-type character of his own creation.

Balm of Gilead by Adina Senft

Book Review

Balm of Gilead by Adina Senft was a good Amish fiction book to read.  This is the 3rd book in the series and I didn’t read the first two and I was able to figure out what was going on for the most part.  That being said you can read this one first but if it were me I would start from the start because there were parts of the story that I wished I knew the back story but I was still able to read this book and not get too lost.  I really enjoyed this book it was a little slow during certain parts but not so slow that I wanted to put the book down and not come back to it.  If you love Amish fiction than I would for sure recommend this book to you.

Balm of Gilead

About The Book

The third installment in the Healing Grace series finds young Amish widow Sarah Yoder facing her greatest challenge–herself. Sarah hasn’t seen Henry Byler since he became engaged to an Englisch woman, which is best for her peace of mind. She’s busy with her family: welcoming her son back from the ranch in Colorado, finding a husband for her sister-in-law, and making the teas and tinctures that heal the members of her church. Then Henry seeks her out, desperate for a balm for his hands before his success as a potter is jeopardized, and Sarah has to call on every ounce of strength to deny the cry of her heart. Yet there is someone who just might have a special cure in mind–a healing balm with the power to change everything. But with Henry’s wedding only days away, is it already too late?

About The Author

Adina Senft grew up in a plain house church, where she was often asked by outsiders if she was Amish (the answer was no), she made her own clothes, and she perfected the art of the French braid. She holds an M.F.A. in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania, where she teaches as adjunct faculty.

Writing as Shelley Bates, she was the winner of RWA’s RITA Award for Best Inspirational Novel in 2005, a finalist for that award in 2006, and, writing as Shelley Adina, was a Christy Award finalist in 2009. Three of her books have shortlisted for the American Christian Fiction Writers’ Carol Award for book of the year. Of her fiction, publisher and industry blogger W. Terry Whalin has said, “Readers will be lost in the vivid world that [she] paints with incredible detail and masterful storytelling.”

A transplanted Canadian, Adina returns there annually to have her accent calibrated. Between books, she enjoys traveling with her husband, playing the piano and Celtic harp, and spoiling her flock of rescued chickens. These days, she makes period costumes and only puts up her hair for historical events and fun.
