Scarlet Oaks and the Serial Caller by Michaela James

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Scarlet Oaks and the Serial Caller by Michaela James was a good audiobook.  I really enjoyed the characters in this story and I was always left trying to figure out which person was the most insane in her group of friends and family.  These are the types of characters that I wish I knew in real life because they are a never-ending source of entertainment. I really enjoyed the narrator of this audiobook and I wouldn’t be mad if I were to listen to other books that she reads. I loved listening to this book because it wasn’t super intense but it did give me an escape from all of the crazy events that are happening right now.  I did enjoy the comedic parts of this book and those moments are the reason that I finished the entire audiobook in just a couple of days. I also enjoyed the author’s writing and I can’t wait to see what crazy things the characters are going to do next. There is one more book in this series that I am going to review next week so come back then to see how I feel about this series then.

Mysterious and elusive, Lady Chrysania of Bloodstein calls from the ruins of her castle. She dwells in the dark, hiding her face, ravaged by an ancient curse. The only way to break the curse is to win a game called Perlamum. If she loses, she dies. She looks to her Vith kin in the west, begging for help acquiring the all-important pieces she needs to play the game.

Lord Kabyl of Blanchefort, his Ne-Countess Sammidoran, and his cousins answer her call. However, collecting the Perlamum pieces for Lady Bloodstein is a deadly game. They must face a host of perils:

-The terrible Black Hat in the city of Waam who knows their every move.
-A hated rival on the planet Xandarr and the bewildering labyrinth of Gods Temple.
-The man from Shook who cannot be killed.
-A family of vile bravos from the south.
-The diabolical Dead Men of Mare, nigh invincible creatures straight from an insane nightmare.

To even the odds, Kay and Sam turn to a forgotten graveyard deep in the Telmus Grove, and the great eminence resting there.

Can Lady Chrysania of Bloodstein be helped, or, for that matter . . .

. . . can she be trusted?

The Corridor by Vic Neal

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Corridor by Vic Neal was a great book to listen to.  It took my mind off of what is happening in the world and that made me love this book even more.  I am not someone who finds books funny but this one made me laugh out loud more times than I can count.  I was also intrigued by this book because I don’t know much about Oxford and that kept me interested in the story and the characters.  Right from the start, I felt like the characters in this book were real people and I was always left thinking how crazy they all were. I loved that the narrator is from the UK because it made the story come to life for me.  He was also easy to understand so I was still able to understand him and listen to it at a faster speed. If you are looking for a book to listen to/read that will take your mind off of what is going on in the world I would give this one a shot.

About The Book

Author: Vic Neal

Narrator: Jack Hardman

Length: 8 hours 32 minutes

Publisher: Nice Cake Publishing Ltd⎮2020

Genre: Humor

Series: Oxford Uni Corridor Series, Book 1

Release date: Feb. 14, 2020

Synopsis: The Corridor is a documentary-style comedy which follows the lives of a group of Oxford students through their conversations, tweets, emails, video diaries, and text messages. Rather than attending lectures and writing essays, the students are more interested in their bizarre clubs, secret dining societies, and organizing rebellions.

Based loosely on the experiences of an Oxford student, The Corridor exposes the famous seat of learning which has continued to excrete our most reprehensible leaders for hundreds of years.

A must-listen book for anyone thinking of becoming a prime minister/anarchist.

About The Author

Vic studied at Oxford for four years, and now lives and works in the West Midlands in the United Kingdom. The Corridor is her debut novel, which she boldly claims is “a bit funny in parts”. Vic has just published the sequel to The Corridor and is now working on a number of new titles – including a historical fiction based on a chance encounter between Lord Byron, King George III and Frankenstein (working title: “Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Sew”). Her aim is to become somebody somewhere’s favourite author.

My best friend asked me to be his best man at his destination wedding.

With a demanding and stressful job with NYPD life for me was all work and no play, but a week-long trip to Hawaii to celebrate Jameson’s nuptials sounds like the perfect excuse to get away.

Leaving work behind wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, though.

That was until she walked up to me at the bar.

After a night of unbridled passion, I discover…she’s the maid of honor in Jameson’s wedding.

Raylynn
My best friend asked me to be her maid of honor at her destination wedding.

After finding my now ex-fiance in a compromising position, escaping to Hawaii is the perfect excuse to find myself again.

With nothing to lose, I approach the hottest guy in that bar and take a chance on getting my own groove back.

There’s just one hiccup…he’s actually the best man in Liv’s wedding.

It was only supposed to be a fling, but when returning home leads to chaos and one relocation to New York, can these two love birds go from fling to forever? Time will tell.

Afterall…425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love.

Raylynn gives me a once over then bursts into laughter.
I look down to see what’s so funny and nearly lose it.
Son of a bitch.
There’s a huge white spot on the crotch of my shorts. It doesn’t help that I’m hard as a rock too, because of what she’s wearing.
“I didn’t mean to interrupt. You could have said you were busy.”
“Funny. Get the hell in here so I can get these off,” I grunt.
She steps inside my apartment and looks around. “Nice place.”
“Thanks. I’ll be right back.” I dart toward the bedroom. “It’s paint by the way,” I call over my shoulder before shutting the door.
Last goddamn time I go paintballing with Jameson and Liam too.
“That’s what they all say,” she yells back.
When I come out, I’m dressed in a nice pair of jeans and a polo shirt. Raylynn gives me a whistle and motions for me to spin around.
“Forget it. You’re not objectifying me.” I grin. “And that paint. Ask Jameson what happened.”
She holds up her hands and snickers. “I’ll pass, but thanks.”
“You good to walk in those?” I point to her shoes. “We’ll need to take the subway.”
“These old things?” Raylynn lifts a foot. “I could run laps in these.”
“We’re not running laps, but I’ll take your word for it.”
She reaches for my shoulders and starts massaging the muscles. “Aww, you’re tense. Are you in a mood?”
I’m tense because she’s standing in my apartment looking like a whole damn snack, and I know nothing is going to happen besides a few drinks.
“Sweetheart, the only mood I’m in is the mood to get out of this apartment for a while,” I lie.
“Well then , let’s get the fuck out of here!” she cheers. “Ooo. Wait a minute. Harley Wagner , are you wearing a gun or are you happy to see me?”
“Christ, I’m tense, and you’re in a really good mood.”
“Seriously, are you wearing your gun?” I sigh and slip my keys into my front pocket. “Yes, Raylynn. I’m packing heat.”

Heaven Heals by Kristin Landgren

Heaven Heals (By Understanding Abraham’s Covenant) is the first book of the Heaven Heals series.
It is the story of Sarah & Abraham, the covenant God made with them, and how their covenant benefits every one of us. It describes the promises He guaranteed them and guarantees everyone who commits to walk with him. It is valuable in introducing Christ’s gospel of love for all, the reality of the everlasting family, and the hope and healing that comes from the knowledge gained in understanding Sarah & Abraham’s covenant with God.  Also, the book explains the universality of all religions united in their goals to serve and love each of God’s children.
The second book in the series is, Heaven Heals (Finding Hope in the Reunion with Your Lost Loved One.)  It is due to release in late 2020.

Kristy Landgren was born in Rockford, Illinois, where she began her piano education at age 4.  She won the” best poet” award in first grade and has “run with it” ever since.   She took part in school and garage bands, sang and provided accompaniments for A Capella choir, participated in musicals, community Corrales, and began playing the organ in church at age 16.

Through music, performance and writing, she affirms the ideals of hope and optimism, faith and love, and incorporates her lessons learned among the wild rides of life.  Importantly, she is a dedicated student of the Bible and finds comfort and peace in the study of the scriptures.

Kristy graduated from Chicago’s Loyola University – School of Dentistry/Dental Hygiene Program and is licensed to practice Dental Hygiene in California, Illinois, and Arizona.  In 1995, she was appointed by then-Governor, Pete Wilson, to serve on the California State Dental Board’s Committee on Dental Auxiliaries.  She served the citizens of California for nine years, completing two terms of service and a grace year, in 2004.  She enjoys juggling the world of science, art and religion, practicing dental hygiene by day, moonlighting as musician by night, and attending study or worship sessions amidst the free time, in pursuit of the latest enlightenment that will inspire a blog, poem, lyric, song or book.

Fortunately for the woman (in Matthew 22), the all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful God has thought of an eternal plan of happiness that extends to all His children. Allowances have been made in His Plan for those who did not receive these covenantal ordinances during their lifetimes. All God’s children will have the opportunity for these ordinations to be completed, if they so desire.
