The Takeaway Men by Meryl Ain

The Takeaway Men by Meryl Ain was an amazing book.  If you have read any of my other reviews you know how I feel about WWII books but this is the first book I have read about the aftermath of the war.  It never crossed my mind how hard it would be for people and kids to adjust after the war.  This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed her writing.  She is an author that I know I will read more books by her in the future.  I also think I am going to see if I can’t find other books like this one because of how much I enjoyed this one.  I fell in love with these characters right from the start of the book and I was sad when I was done with this book because I missed these characters.  This book left me feeling sad because of everything these poor people went through and then move to the US and crazy things happen here.  If you are looking for a different WWII book to read I would recommend this one to you and I am sure you will love it as much as I did.

My Undead Mother-In-Law by Andy Zack

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

My Undead Mother-In-Law by Andy Zack was a much more interesting book to as compared to the first book in the series.  When I started this book I didn’t think that I was going to like it because of how I felt about the first book but is why you should never judge a book before you read it because most of the time you end up liking the book.  I think one of the main reasons that I liked this book was that there more humans that become zombies which made me feel like I could relate to the characters.  When I think about that last statement I realize how dumb that makes me sound but it is true.  I still wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrators but by the end of the book, they both had grown on me.  I am super interested in what crazy thing will happen next.  This is one book where I don’t even try to figure out what is going to happen next because I am always wrong.  If you are looking for a funny book to take your mind off of what is going on right now I would pick up this one and check it out.

Withstanding the Enemy by T.L. Mahrt was a book that took me a few chapters before I got into the book.  This book was a slow starter but once it picked up I really enjoyed the story.  I also wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that there are parts of the book that deal with domestic violence and if that is something that will trigger you I would skip this book.  It didn’t bother me but that is probably because I have never had to deal with anything like that.  This is the first book I have read by this author and I will read more by her in the future I am sure.  I also enjoy the narrator of the book and I wouldn’t mind listening to other books that they read in the future.  I also love Chance right from the start and spent the whole book hoping that he and Emma would end up with each other.  If you love romance novels I would pick this one up and give it a shot.

Carnal Knowledge by Rachael Tamayo wasn’t one of my favorite books.  For whatever reason, I found it hard for me to stay interested while I was reading.   This book does have a very unique plot and I love it when I find books like this one.  So many books in this genre are all the same and this book was interesting because of the plot.  I really did enjoy the authors writing so I am not sure why I didn’t enjoy this book.  I am going to put this book away and try and read it again and see if that changes my mind.  This book wasn’t super suspenseful but it did keep me guessing right up until the end of the book. I know that the fact that this book had a unique plot is the one thing that kept me reading.  If you are looking for a book with a unique plot than I would pick up a copy of this one and check it out.

Closer Than She Knows by Kelly Irvin was a great book.  I really enjoyed this book and the characters in the book.  I didn’t find that this book was super suspenseful but it had enough that kept me reading until I finished the book.  This book was also a pretty quick read for me but with that being said once I had finished the book I missed Teagan and her family.  I also loved that Teagan loved murder mystery’s just like I do.  That made me feel like I could relate more to her because we had that in common with each other.  I always love it when I find characters that I can relate too.  I believe that this is the first book I have read by this author and I can’t wait to read more books by her in the future.  If you are a lover of mystery books like I am I would recommend this book to you because I am sure that you will love it as much as I did.

But she’s never known the smell of death. And she never thought she might be a victim. Until now. A young police officer is murdered just inches away from her, and then a man calling himself a serial killer starts leaving Teagan notes, signing each with the name of a different murderer from her favorite mystery novels. Panicked, Teagan turns to her friend Max Kennedy. Max longs for more than friendship with Teagan, but he fears she’ll never trust someone with a past like his. He wonders how much of God’s “tough love” he can take before he gives up on love completely. And he wonders if he’ll be able to keep Teagan alive long enough to find out. As Teagan, Max, and Teagan’s police officer father race to track down the elusive killer, they each know they could be the next victim. Desperate to save those she loves, Teagan battles fears that once haunted her in childhood. Nothing seems to stop this obsessed murderer. No matter what she does, he seems to be getting closer.

Zombie Turkeys by Andy Zack

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Zombie Turkeys by Andy Zack was an interesting book, to say the least.  This genre isn’t one that I usually read and the only reason I decided to check it out is because of what is happening in the world right now.  That being said it did take my mind off of what is going on but this wasn’t one of my favorites.  Right from the start of the book it reminded me of the movie “Free Birds” except for the fact that this book in for adults.  I wasn’t the biggest fan of narrators because I found it hard to tell the difference between all characters in the story because they all sounded so similar.  I found it hard to listen to this one as I was working because I couldn’t focus on what I was doing.  There were parts that made me laugh and I am currently listening to the next books in the series and that review will be up next Saturday.  I did think that this book was super rushed and at times I wish it wasn’t so rushed.  The one thing about this book that made me wonder is even though this situation couldn’t really happen but I wonder if something like this could happen because of the genetic modifying products we use in the real world.  If you are looking for something totally different I would pick up a copy of this book and check it.

The undead plague of poultry spreads uncontrollably, rocking the whole country. As Sam tracks down the zombie turkeys and how to eradicate them, his editor, Lisa Kambacher, nags him to turn his stories and expenses in on time. During their years of working together, Lisa has mellowed into an irascible pinchpenny. Lisa snipes at Sam for plebeian writing but uses her intelligence to pursue the lucrative carnivorous turkey story. Sam and Lisa ricochet across the landscape, tracking turkeys and fleeing the bloodthirsty hordes. Careening from shell-shocked grocery store owners fighting turkeys crawling out of refrigerators, to machine-gunning turkey farmers, to secret militia, Sam and Lisa doggedly report. Throughout the turkey apocalypse, they dare ravaged cities, plow knee-deep in gore and corpses, and upload streams of zombie turkey video news to the world. With paranoid militias clashing with the federal government and unkillable turkeys, Sam and Lisa doubt their ability to survive. Sam and Lisa have no superpowers. If you have a heart condition or lack humor, you should not listen to Zombie Turkeys, no matter how much you want to find out what happens.
