The Buried Girl by Richard Montanari was a book that left me shocked and made me not want to put it down until I was finished with it.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book when I read the description, but I am so glad that I did give it a chance because I fell in love with the author and this story.  I can’t wait to read more books by this author in the future because I loved this book.  There were parts where I was able to predict what was going to happen and that wasn’t very often, so it didn’t turn me off while I was reading the book.  There were parts that did shock me and took me by total surprise and that is a rare thing for me because I have read so many books and there are few things that are able to shock me anymore.  I am sure this is one of the reasons that I loved this book as much as I did.  I was able to read this book super quick because of how interested I was in this book.  If you are looking for a great mystery that has will keep you on the edge of your set than I would for sure pick this book up.

New York psychologist Will Hardy had it all—a loving family, a flourishing career, a bestselling book. Until the night it all ended in a tempest of fire and ash, leaving only Will and his fifteen-year-old daughter Bernadette to stand in the ruins.

Haunted and grief-stricken, Will accepts an enigmatic invitation from his family’s past to begin their lives anew in the small town of Abbeville, Ohio.

Meanwhile, Abbeville Chief of Police Ivy Holgrave is investigating the death of a local girl, convinced this may only be the latest in a long line of murders dating back decades—including her own long-missing sister.

But what place does Will’s new home have in the story of the missing girls? And what links the killings to the diary of a young woman written over a century earlier? The disappearances in Abbeville have happened before, and now Will’s own daughter might be next…

Rotten Peaches by Lisa de Nikolits

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Rotten Peaches by Lisa de Nikolits was a book full of characters that I couldn’t stand.  That made this book a hard for me to read because throughout the entire book I started hating each of them more and more.  I do have to commend the author because she created a group of characters that are all assholes and someone I would avoid in real life.  I was amazed at how well the author was able to make me hate characters right from the start.   I don’t know that I have ever read a book where I felt as strongly about the characters as this book did.  I do think that this book was written well, and I was glad that I didn’t put it down without finishing it but it isn’t one that I will ever read again.

About The Book

Genre: Noir Suspense Thriller

Publication Date: September 20th 2018

Number of Pages: 300

ISBN: 1771335297 (ISBN13: 9781771335294)

Rotten Peaches is a gripping epic filled with disturbing and unforgettable insights into the human condition. Love, lust, race and greed. How far will you go? Two women. Two men. One happy ending. It takes place in Canada, the U.S. and South Africa. Nature or nurture. South Africa, racism and old prejudices — these are hardly old topics but what happens when biological half-siblings meet with insidious intentions? Can their moral corruption be blamed on genetics — were they born rotten to begin with? And what happens when they meet up with more of their ilk? What further havoc can be wreaked, with devastating familial consequences?

“Wow. Just wow. Lisa de Nikolits’ Rotten Peaches blew me away. A dark, compulsive, and addictive story in which the characters’ secrets and needs conflict with each other and fold back in on themselves in an ever-tightening noose, Rotten Peaches will keep readers gripped until the very last page. Highly recommended!” —Karen Dionne, internationally bestselling author of The Marsh King’s Daughter

Beyond the Truth by Bruce Robert Coffin was an amazing book.  I wasn’t super sure that I was going to be interested in this book but once I started it I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished with it.  This book kept me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it which always me happy.  I loved that this book has things that happen in the United States right now.  It made me feel like I was part of the book which always makes the book come to life as I am reading the story.  I also couldn’t figure out how the book was going to end which is also something that made me like this book.  I always thought I knew how it was going to end but I was always wrong, so it kept me reading.  People who enjoy thriller/suspense type of books will love this book as much as I did.  Have you read this book and if so what did you think of it?

A Mother’s Lie by Jo Crow

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partner’s In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

A Mother’s Lie by Jo Crow was an audiobook that once I started listening to it I didn’t stop until I finished it.  I loved this book right from the start and once it was over I missed Clara because I really enjoyed her personality.  I also enjoyed the narrator that was used for this audiobook.  I enjoyed her voice and that is part of the reason that enjoyed this book as much as I did.  One of the things that I have been loving about audiobooks is the fact that I can turn the reading speed up so that I can listen to the book faster than what it is originally read it.  I used to hate how slow audiobooks went but now that I can I increase the speed I love them.  I am lucky to have a job where I can listen to books as I work so they are becoming one of my favorite ways to read books.

Anyway, let’s get back to the review of this book.  It took me a day and a half to get through this book because once I started listening I didn’t want to stop listening until I was through with the book and I know how it all ended.  I know that I am going to listen to more books by this narrator because I loved her voice and I am also going to read more books by this author because I loved this book and her style of writing.  If you are looking for a good thriller to read this October I would say pick this one up but even more than that I would say check out the audiobook version of this book because it is amazing, and I loved it.  Do you like listening to audiobooks and if so who is your favorite narrator.

A month later, she took the leap, quit her job, and sat down for weeks with pen to paper. The words for her first manuscript just flew from her. Now she spends her days reading and writing, dreaming up new ideas for domestic noir fans, and drawing from her own experiences in the cut-throat commercial sector.

Not one to look back, Jo is all in, and can’t wait for her next book to begin.

Scar Tissue by Patricia Hale was another amazing book that I also enjoyed.  I have been super interested in books like this one lately and I have added this author to my list because I can’t wait to read more books by her in the future.  I also hope that she writes more books with these characters in the future because I really fell in love with them as I was reading this book.  This book did keep me on the edge of my seat as I was reading, and it kept me reading because I had to know how it all ended.  I can’t say enough good things about this book because I loved everything about this book and the authors writing.  I loved that this book had parts of the medical industry in it because that is where my heart is.  I always love books that involve that kind of stuff so that is another reason that I loved this book.  If you love books that have medical things in them along with a good mystery than I know you will love this book as much as I did.

Three Strikes by Ross Klavan, Tim O’Mara, & Charles Salzberg

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Three Strikes by Ross Klavan, Tim O’Mara, & Charles Salzberg was a super fun book to read.  I do want to say that my favorite story out of the three was “Jammed” because I loved what his job was, and it left me with a smile on my face.  I had a really hard time taking the story to seriously because of everything that happened.  If I am being honest I had a really hard time staying interested in the other two books and I am not sure why.  I do love books like this though because if I get bored with one of the stories I can move on to the next one and come back to the other one later.  I would by this book again all for the middle story because I just fell in love that story right from the start.  If you are looking for something different to read I would pick up a copy of this book and check it out.  Have you read it and if so what did you think of it?

I Take Care of Myself in Dreamland

by Ross Klavan

Bartok is horribly scarred. Wounded in the Army, he roams through 1970’s New York, a city of perpetual night, punctuated by crime and populated by streetwalkers, hooker bars, strip clubs, easy drugs and a feeling of doom. There’s one thing on his mind: an experience he had when his Army truck exploded, an experience he calls Red River. More than bliss, more than spiritual. But nothing goes right. Bartok loses his girl, his money, any possibility of support and decides that he’s finished, he’s going to end it but before he does, he’s going out on the town for one last attempt to recapture the incredible experience of Red River. And when he does, he runs into others who see him as an easy mark for dirtier plans…plans that involve murder before suicide.

Bartok’s story is told by a driver for the mob, a guy who’s heard it all and usually keeps his mouth shut because when he begins a trip, it’s almost always one-way.

Jammed

by Tim O’Mara

Aggie’s back. After barely escaping with his life in “Smoked,” Aggie disproves the old adage of “Once burned…” This time around he’s heading from the Midwest to New York City with a sweet shipment of stolen maple syrup. He also has picked up an unwanted-and potentially dangerous-passenger; the fifteen-year-old daughter of his latest boss has hopped on for a free ride to the Big Apple and her on-line boyfriend. When they arrive in NYC, Aggie’s worst fears are realized when the “boyfriend” turns out to be a group of human traffickers. Aggie knew that running one of the world’s most valuable liquids across state lines was skirting the line between safety and danger, but he never knew it could get this sticky.

The Maybrick Affair

by Charles Salzberg

It’s a couple weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor and a young reporter, Jake Harper, who works for a small Connecticut newspaper, is assigned a routine human interest story. A reclusive, elderly woman, has quietly passed away in her small cottage upstate. Anxious for bigger stories, Jake begins his assignment by trying to find out who this woman was and what kind of life she led. As Jake investigates the old woman’s death he finds that years earlier she was tried and convicted of murdering her husband in a well-publicized, lurid trial in London, England. And, after digging further, he, unearths evidence that she might have had a connection to an even more famous British serial killer and that the ramifications of this story might affect America’s entry into the War.
