So Others May Live by Lee Hutch

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

So Others May Live by Lee Hutch I really enjoyed this book and I loved that the narrator is from the United Kingdom because it made me get even more into the story.  I am also the biggest fan of books like this that take place during WWII because it is one of my favorite times in history. I really enjoyed this book and I was sad when it ended because I really enjoyed these characters and the author’s writing.  When I was listening to this book I had to slow down the speed of the book because I did find it hard to understand the narrator when I was listening to it at the speed that I usually listen to them at. I do love that this author included some of the horrible things that really happened to people during WWII but didn’t go into so much detail that made it hard to listen to.  I would warn you that if you are triggered by things that happen in war than this might not be the book for you because he doesn’t go into a ton of details but there are some so be aware of that.  Also if I being honest I loved this book but it didn’t wrap up all of the storylines and that bugged me.  I am not sure if he is going to write another book in this series or if this is just a one-off book.  So be aware that not all of the storylines get finished and it may leave you wondering what happened to the rest of the characters. If you reading/listening to books that take place in WWII I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Chemical Attraction by Christine Thompson

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Chemical Attraction by Christine Thompson was a good book.  This is the third book in this series and at first, I was lost because I didn’t know any of the backstories but once I was a few chapters in I had pretty much figured out what was going on.  Even though that was true there were things that I didn’t understand because I didn’t know the back story of the characters and I was just okay with not knowing who everyone was and how there were all tied together.  This book did make me want to go back and read the other books in this series because I fell in love with the characters by the end of the book. I did find that this book was predictable but didn’t bother me because I really enjoyed the authors writing and the narrator’s voice.  The narrator is one that I will add to my list of people to listen to read other books in the future. If you enjoy mystery books than I would give this one a shot because I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Toxic Blonde by David Stever

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Toxic Blonde by David Stever was an interesting book to listen to.  This is the second book in the series but you don’t have to listen to the first book if you don’t want to but if you want to listen to the whole series then I would recommend that you listen to them in order so nothing in this book ruins what happens in the first book.  I do have to say that I did find the book predictable at certain points but because I like the characters so much I didn’t mind that I was able to figure out what was going to happen. This book doesn’t have the most original plot but it was still interesting and I didn’t want to stop listening until I was finished with this book.  This is one of those books that all of the characters would have died multiple times as I was listening to this book. If you are looking for a book that is super realistic than this one won’t be for you but if you are just looking for a fun thriller to listen to I know you will enjoy this book just as much as I did.

About The Narrator

Bill Lord has been an entertainer since 1983 when he began a nearly 20-year career as a professional wiseguy on rock and pop radio. After radio, his love of storytelling drew him into the world of acting and audiobook narration. It was a transition that began his exploration of connecting with an author’s truth on a deeply emotional level, while bringing each of their character’s reality to life with an authentic voice.

When Bill narrates a story, he transforms the written word into a multidimensional aural experience that makes you lose all sense of time and what is going on around you. He transports the listener to faraway realms or perhaps across the galaxy, until the world around you is supplanted by the flickering movie screen of your own imagination.

In addition to reading books for major publishers, and indie authors and publishers, Bill is a former coach of Edge Studio’s Investigate Voiceover classes in Washington, D.C., and an occasional cast member with The Lake of the Woods Players. When he’s not on stage or in the booth narrating, you can find cruising the lake on his pontoon boat (in Orange County, VA) while enjoying a Manhattan with his beautiful wife, Joya.

Auburn Ride by David Stever

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Auburn Ride by David Stever was a great story but it did take me a few chapters to get used to the narrator’s voice.  Once I got used to his voice I was able to get through this whole book in a couple of days. I really did love this author’s writing and the story.  At times I did get annoyed with the main character in this book because of how he acted. I also couldn’t stand Claire because right from the start I knew she was up to something.  I spent the whole book hoping that Johnny would come to his senses and realize that Claire was playing with him. I did enjoy the plot to this book even though I was able to figure out what was going to happen before it did happen.  Even saying that I did enjoy this book and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I will have a review of the next book up next week so if you are interested in what I think about that book make sure you come back next week.

Welcome to Port City!

Private investigator Johnny Delarosa has seen it all. First as a cop, and now as a private eye. Cheating spouses, embezzlements, and insurance scams are routine. But he meets his match when the alluring, auburn-haired Claire Dixon walks into his bar/office and drops a $20,000 retainer in his lap. She wants the hard-drinking Johnny to find $2 million that was stolen from her mobster family 30 years earlier. But $2 million can be motivating. Old mobsters come out of witness protection to claim their share, and when bodies begin to pile up, and his sexy, enigmatic client disappears, Johnny is taken on the ride of his life; an Auburn Ride. With a wink and a nod to the hard-boiled private eyes of the pulp noir past, the gritty streets of Port City set the stage for author David Stever’s first thriller in the Delarosa series.

Secrets & Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Secrets & Lies by Andrew Cunningham this book made so many things make sense to me in this series.  You don’t need to listen to all of the books in order to understand this book but if you are interested in the whole series then I would listen to them in order so that the other books don’t ruin any of the books.    This is the fourth book in this series and if you want to see my thoughts on the other books you can click here, here and here. Now I did enjoy this book but I am also annoyed that if they were all real people the would have all died a couple of times but they are all still alive.  I do have to say that I think this book might be my favorite book in this series so far. This had a pretty unique plot and that is part of the reason that I enjoyed this book. I also loved that you get more background information on some of the characters. Since this is the third book in the series I almost look at these characters as if they are friends so I really enjoyed getting to know some of the backstories for a few more of the characters.  If you are looking for a fun new series to check out I would for sure give this series a chance.

I was born in England, but have spent most of my life living in the U.S.—including 25 years on Cape Cod before moving to Florida. A former interpreter for the deaf and long-time independent bookseller, I’ve been a full-time freelance writer and copy editor for many years. A 4th-degree Master Black belt in Tang Soo Do, I finally retired from active training when my body said, “Enough already! Why are you doing this to yourself?” I’m married, with two grown children and two awesome grandsons. My wife and I spend as much time traveling as we can, and are especially fond of cruising the Caribbean.

I have been gratified by the response to my books. When I published Eden Rising back in the spring of 2013, I had no idea what to expect. When I sold my first few copies, I was excited beyond belief that someone was willing to take a chance on it. Numerous books and thousands of copies later, I am still humbled by the emails I get from readers telling me that my books kept them up late into the night.

In October of 2014, Wisdom Spring made me an official Amazon Bestselling author, a thrill I never thought would happen. But it still comes down to being able to bring a few hours of escape to a reader. That’s what it’s all about for me.

I hope you will try my books. Please feel free to email me with your comments.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham was a good book but I am also done with these characters.  I have reviewed the other 2 books in this series and you can check out those reviews here and here if you missed them or if you are interested in seeing how I felt about them.  I reached the point at the end of the book where I was annoyed that no matter what happens to the main characters they survive and go right back to making stupid choices that should have gotten them killed.  Even with me saying that I did in the story for the most part but I was able to figure out how it all was going to end. I think if I had more time in between listening to the books that I wouldn’t have been as annoyed with the characters.  You don’t have to listen to the other two books in this series if you aren’t interested in them. You will be able to understand what is going on in this book without having read the other two books but if you are interested in the series than I would start with book one so nothing gets ruined for you.  I did like these characters and if the author writes more books with these characters I will pick it up so that I can catch up with them in the future. If you are looking for a new series to start reading this winter I would pick up a copy of this series and give it a read. If you have read this series what did you think of it and which book was your favorite?
