Auburn Ride by David Stever

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Auburn Ride by David Stever was a great story but it did take me a few chapters to get used to the narrator’s voice.  Once I got used to his voice I was able to get through this whole book in a couple of days. I really did love this author’s writing and the story.  At times I did get annoyed with the main character in this book because of how he acted. I also couldn’t stand Claire because right from the start I knew she was up to something.  I spent the whole book hoping that Johnny would come to his senses and realize that Claire was playing with him. I did enjoy the plot to this book even though I was able to figure out what was going to happen before it did happen.  Even saying that I did enjoy this book and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I will have a review of the next book up next week so if you are interested in what I think about that book make sure you come back next week.

Welcome to Port City!

Private investigator Johnny Delarosa has seen it all. First as a cop, and now as a private eye. Cheating spouses, embezzlements, and insurance scams are routine. But he meets his match when the alluring, auburn-haired Claire Dixon walks into his bar/office and drops a $20,000 retainer in his lap. She wants the hard-drinking Johnny to find $2 million that was stolen from her mobster family 30 years earlier. But $2 million can be motivating. Old mobsters come out of witness protection to claim their share, and when bodies begin to pile up, and his sexy, enigmatic client disappears, Johnny is taken on the ride of his life; an Auburn Ride. With a wink and a nod to the hard-boiled private eyes of the pulp noir past, the gritty streets of Port City set the stage for author David Stever’s first thriller in the Delarosa series.

About The Narrator

Bill Lord has been an entertainer since 1983 when he began a nearly 20-year career as a professional wiseguy on rock and pop radio. After radio, his love of storytelling drew him into the world of acting and audiobook narration. It was a transition that began his exploration of connecting with an author’s truth on a deeply emotional level, while bringing each of their character’s reality to life with an authentic voice.

When Bill narrates a story, he transforms the written word into a multidimensional aural experience that makes you lose all sense of time and what is going on around you. He transports the listener to faraway realms or perhaps across the galaxy, until the world around you is supplanted by the flickering movie screen of your own imagination.

In addition to reading books for major publishers, and indie authors and publishers, Bill is a former coach of Edge Studio’s Investigate Voiceover classes in Washington, D.C., and an occasional cast member with The Lake of the Woods Players. When he’s not on stage or in the booth narrating, you can find cruising the lake on his pontoon boat (in Orange County, VA) while enjoying a Manhattan with his beautiful wife, Joya.

Bill Lord is an Audible Approved Producer. Visit Nothing Rhymes with Orange Studio’s website for more information.

Secrets & Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Secrets & Lies by Andrew Cunningham this book made so many things make sense to me in this series.  You don’t need to listen to all of the books in order to understand this book but if you are interested in the whole series then I would listen to them in order so that the other books don’t ruin any of the books.    This is the fourth book in this series and if you want to see my thoughts on the other books you can click here, here and here. Now I did enjoy this book but I am also annoyed that if they were all real people the would have all died a couple of times but they are all still alive.  I do have to say that I think this book might be my favorite book in this series so far. This had a pretty unique plot and that is part of the reason that I enjoyed this book. I also loved that you get more background information on some of the characters. Since this is the third book in the series I almost look at these characters as if they are friends so I really enjoyed getting to know some of the backstories for a few more of the characters.  If you are looking for a fun new series to check out I would for sure give this series a chance.

About The Author

I’m the author of novels in several genres, including, mystery, thriller, and post-apocalyptic science fiction. Under the name A.R. Cunningham, I’ve also written the Arthur MacArthur series of mysteries for children.

I was born in England, but have spent most of my life living in the U.S.—including 25 years on Cape Cod before moving to Florida. A former interpreter for the deaf and long-time independent bookseller, I’ve been a full-time freelance writer and copy editor for many years. A 4th-degree Master Black belt in Tang Soo Do, I finally retired from active training when my body said, “Enough already! Why are you doing this to yourself?” I’m married, with two grown children and two awesome grandsons. My wife and I spend as much time traveling as we can, and are especially fond of cruising the Caribbean.

I have been gratified by the response to my books. When I published Eden Rising back in the spring of 2013, I had no idea what to expect. When I sold my first few copies, I was excited beyond belief that someone was willing to take a chance on it. Numerous books and thousands of copies later, I am still humbled by the emails I get from readers telling me that my books kept them up late into the night.

In October of 2014, Wisdom Spring made me an official Amazon Bestselling author, a thrill I never thought would happen. But it still comes down to being able to bring a few hours of escape to a reader. That’s what it’s all about for me.

I hope you will try my books. Please feel free to email me with your comments.

A Texan Goes to Nirvana by Kelly Jackson

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

A Texan Goes to Nirvana by Kelly Jackson took me a few chapters to get into but once I was hooked I listen to the rest of it pretty quickly.  I loved that the author narrated her own book because it makes it seem like the actual characters are doing the talking. I liked Wendy right from the start of the book.  She always left me with a smile on my face as I was listening to this book. I also loved that she was a place in order to become a yoga instructor but she still smokes and drinks in secret throughout the entire book.  She was always saying or doing something that left me smiling as I was listening. I also loved all of the characters that she met as she was going along. There was a small mystery aspect to this book but it was secondary to the story it was just enough to keep me interested to not to over the top like some of the other books that I have read.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something that will leave you smiling when the book is finished. It also was only just over 4 hours so I was able to get through it in just a couple of days.

About The Author

Kelly Jackson

Kelly Jackson is a SAG/AFTRA-affiliated actor and comedienne, and as such, she loves idealizing characters in the books that she narrates.  Kelly and her sister are also bloggers known as The Midlife Gals Gone Gray. That’s how this whole thing got started. They choose a topic and then annihilate it through two hilariously disparate points of view.  Kelly wrote a book, A Texan Goes to Nirvana, and wanted to narrate it herself. That’s how that got started. When not writing and narrating, Kelly has a ‘death grip on the control panel’ as a Senior Executive Assistant/Girl Friday to CEOs.  Although a Texan by birth, Kelly and her sister live in Hawaii and enjoy a regular yoga practice, movies, swimming and oddbody watching at nearby beaches. The Beijing Memorandum by JB Morris

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from iRead Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Beijing Memorandum by JB Morris wasn’t my favorite book.  I don’t know that I can even tell you what I didn’t like about this book but I struggled to read it.  It took me a month to get through this book because I didn’t ever get hooked on what was happening. This is the third book in the series and I didn’t read the other two books so maybe I missed something.  I also felt like I was never able to relate to any of the characters so that was hard as well. It is very well written and I kept reading it because I hoped that it would get better but it never did that for me.  The one thing I did like about this book was that it made me think about what would happen if the same thing happened in today’s world. How much would it change our world and what type of changes would happen. I think that if you like heavy books on topics that might just happen you will probably enjoy this book. It just wasn’t the right fit for me and the books that I usually read.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham was a good book but I am also done with these characters.  I have reviewed the other 2 books in this series and you can check out those reviews here and here if you missed them or if you are interested in seeing how I felt about them.  I reached the point at the end of the book where I was annoyed that no matter what happens to the main characters they survive and go right back to making stupid choices that should have gotten them killed.  Even with me saying that I did in the story for the most part but I was able to figure out how it all was going to end. I think if I had more time in between listening to the books that I wouldn’t have been as annoyed with the characters.  You don’t have to listen to the other two books in this series if you aren’t interested in them. You will be able to understand what is going on in this book without having read the other two books but if you are interested in the series than I would start with book one so nothing gets ruined for you.  I did like these characters and if the author writes more books with these characters I will pick it up so that I can catch up with them in the future. If you are looking for a new series to start reading this winter I would pick up a copy of this series and give it a read. If you have read this series what did you think of it and which book was your favorite?

Widow’s Run by TG Wolff

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Widow’s Run by TG Wolff had a very interesting plot and it kept me interested right from the start.  I love it when I find books like this one because they have such unique plots and that makes me want to read the book even more.  I have read so many books in this genre that it is rare that I find a book with a plot that I haven’t read something similar to in the past and I loved that about this book and this author.  I truly enjoyed this author’s writing and she is one that I will be adding to my list of authors to check out in the future. I loved that this book was intense right from the first page and because of that it hooked me and I didn’t want to put it down until I was done with the story.  I love when authors start a book with a bang and then keep the pace up throughout the book. This book was also able to keep me guessing and I didn’t figure out what was going to happen until the end of the book. If you are looking for a book with a unique plot to read this winter I would give this one a shot.

About The Book

One night in Rome. One car. One dead scientist. Italian police investigate, but in the end, all they have are kind words for the new widow. Months later, a video emerges challenging the facts. Had he stepped into traffic, or was he pushed? The widow returns to the police, but they have little interest and no answers. Exit the widow.

Enter Diamond. One name for a woman with one purpose. Resurrecting her CIA cover, she follows the shaky video down the rabbit hole. Her widow’s run unearths a plethora of suspects: the small-time crook, the mule-loving rancher, the lady in waiting, the Russian bookseller, the soon-to-be priest. Following the stink greed leaves in its wake reveals big lies and ugly truths.

Murder is filthy business. Good thing Diamond plays dirty.

About The Author

TG Wolff writes thrillers and mysteries that play within the gray area between good and bad, right and wrong. Cause and effect drive the stories, drawing from 20+ years’ experience in Civil Engineering, where “cause” is more often a symptom of a bigger, more challenging problem. Diverse characters mirror the complexities of real life and real people, balanced with a healthy dose of entertainment. TG Wolff holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and is a member of Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime.
