Playing For Keeps by Jill Shalvis

Playing For Keeps by Jill Shalvis was another great book by this author.  This author has become one of my favorites and I think that these characters are my favorite in this series.  This is part of a series, but you don’t have to read all the books if you aren’t interested in those books.  If you are interested in this genre of books, I would recommend starting from the first book and reading them all because I am sure you will love them like I do.  The main thing I loved about this book is Lollipop because I always love when there are animals in books.  Like most books in this genre, I was able to predict what was going to happen but that didn’t affect how I felt about the book.  This is one that I am going to be holding on too because I know I will love to read it again in the future.  If you love chick lit books I know you love this book like I did.

About The Book

If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s yoga pants, he’s a suit. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk

Rotten Peaches by Lisa de Nikolits

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Rotten Peaches by Lisa de Nikolits was a book full of characters that I couldn’t stand.  That made this book a hard for me to read because throughout the entire book I started hating each of them more and more.  I do have to commend the author because she created a group of characters that are all assholes and someone I would avoid in real life.  I was amazed at how well the author was able to make me hate characters right from the start.   I don’t know that I have ever read a book where I felt as strongly about the characters as this book did.  I do think that this book was written well, and I was glad that I didn’t put it down without finishing it but it isn’t one that I will ever read again.

About The Book

Genre: Noir Suspense Thriller

Published by: Inanna Poetry & Fiction Series

Publication Date: September 20th 2018

Number of Pages: 300

ISBN: 1771335297 (ISBN13: 9781771335294)

Rotten Peaches is a gripping epic filled with disturbing and unforgettable insights into the human condition. Love, lust, race and greed. How far will you go? Two women. Two men. One happy ending. It takes place in Canada, the U.S. and South Africa. Nature or nurture. South Africa, racism and old prejudices — these are hardly old topics but what happens when biological half-siblings meet with insidious intentions? Can their moral corruption be blamed on genetics — were they born rotten to begin with? And what happens when they meet up with more of their ilk? What further havoc can be wreaked, with devastating familial consequences?

“Wow. Just wow. Lisa de Nikolits’ Rotten Peaches blew me away. A dark, compulsive, and addictive story in which the characters’ secrets and needs conflict with each other and fold back in on themselves in an ever-tightening noose, Rotten Peaches will keep readers gripped until the very last page. Highly recommended!” —Karen Dionne, internationally bestselling author of The Marsh King’s Daughter

Maybe Ever After by Cassie Grahan

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Barclay Publicity in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Maybe Ever After by Cassie Grahan was a great book.  This is the first book I have read by this author and I know that I will read more books by her in the future because I really enjoyed this book and her writing.  I did at times feel like certain points were super drawn out and maybe could have been shortened but it wasn’t bad enough that I wanted to put the book down.  There were parts that I found to be predictable but that almost always happens to me because of the number of books that I have read.  There were also parts that might make people uncomfortable because it was kind of graphic, but it is between two consenting adults, so they didn’t bother me.  This book was a super easy read for me, and I was able to finish it in just over a day and I also love books that I can read super quick.  All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read more books by this author in the future.  If you love chick lit books I would pick this one up because I am sure that most people that like that genre will enjoy this book like I did.

About The Author

A Moscato aficionado, and chocolate mistress, Cassie Graham is a born and raised Arizona girl. Her sass knows no bounds and almost always has something kind to say, no matter the situation. She runs a platform of love and strives to bring those attributes out in every book she writes.

She started writing early in her high school career after an English teacher forced her to write in a journal. Four years and thirty-something notebooks full of words later, she found her passion. If Cassie isn’t shoulder-deep in writing a version of a fairytale, you can find her front porch sitting with her husband and daughter, eating all the bread, gossiping with her best friends, visiting Disneyland, supporting strong women, listening to cheesy music and reading great books by amazing people. She loves binge-watching Supernatural, drooling over Dean, Sam and Cas, and going to conventions. She also enjoys spreading love any chance she can. So, if you run into her, give her a hug or a high-five. She guarantees they’re magic.

Author of Unable to Resist, Anyone But Him, The Truth of a Liar, Enchanting Wilder, Surviving Wilder, Who Needs Air and The Girl Behind the Red Door.

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Beyond the Truth by Bruce Robert Coffin was an amazing book.  I wasn’t super sure that I was going to be interested in this book but once I started it I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished with it.  This book kept me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it which always me happy.  I loved that this book has things that happen in the United States right now.  It made me feel like I was part of the book which always makes the book come to life as I am reading the story.  I also couldn’t figure out how the book was going to end which is also something that made me like this book.  I always thought I knew how it was going to end but I was always wrong, so it kept me reading.  People who enjoy thriller/suspense type of books will love this book as much as I did.  Have you read this book and if so what did you think of it?

Catch Me If You Can by Carrie Marston

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Book Look in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Catch Me If You Can by Carrie Marston wasn’t my favorite book.  This is probably because this book was written for middle/high school students and to me, it didn’t seem to be organized well.  I was able to read this book in about an hour.  I think any teenagers that read this book would probably be able to relate to the characters and enjoy this book but because I am so much older than the characters I just couldn’t stay interested in this book.

About The Book

Meet fifteen-year-old Laura, who thinks her name is plain, her stepmom’s insane, and her stepbrother is lame. Enter a new friend and new grade in high school, a sister she never sees, a mom she doesn’t want to see, and a sister she didn’t want to happen, and you’ve got big problems! The last thing Laura expects is for someone to understand. Hopefully it will happen before it’s too late.

White as Silence, Red as Song by Alessandro D’Avenia

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Book Look in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

White as Silence, Red as Song by Alessandro D’Avenia was a hard book for me to read because it seemed to be a stream of conscious book.  This book is popular in Italy and if I am being honest I can’t really see why.  They are comparing it to the book “The Fault in Our Stars” but to me I can’t see how they are similar at all.  I think that part of the reason that I didn’t like this book is because it is written about teenagers and since I am so far removed from that group of people I didn’t feel like I could relate to the characters in this book.  It was really well written, so I did enjoy that about this book.  I would be willing to check out other books by him in the future if he was writing about adults.  I think the book would be great for teenagers and I am sure most of the would enjoy this story.

About The Book

International bestseller White as Milk, Red as Blood, has been called the Italian The Fault in Our Stars.

Leo is an ordinary sixteen-year-old: he loves hanging out with his friends, playing soccer, and zipping around on his motorbike. The time he has to spend at school is a drag, and his teachers are “a protected species that you hope will become extinct,” so when a new history and philosophy teacher arrives, Leo greets him with his usual antipathy. But this young man turns out to be different. His eyes sparkle when he talks, and he encourages his students to live passionately, and follow their dreams.

Leo now feels like a lion, as his name suggests, but there is still one thing that terrifies him: the color white. White is absence; everything related to deprivation and loss in his life is white. Red, on the other hand, is the color of love, passion and blood; red is the color of Beatrice’s hair. Leo’s dream is a girl named Beatrice, the prettiest in school. Beatrice is irresistible – one look from her is enough to make Leo forget about everything else.

There is, however, a female presence much closer to Leo, which he finds harder to see because she’s right under his nose: the ever-dependable and serene Silvia. When he discovers that Beatrice has leukemia and that her disease is related to the white that scares him so much, Leo is forced to search within himself, to bleed and to be reborn. In the process, he comes to understand that dreams must never die, and he finds the strength to believe in something bigger than himself.

White as Milk, Red as Blood is not only a coming-of-age story and the narrative of a school year, but it is also a bold novel that, through Leo’s monologue – at times easy-going and full of verve, at times more intimate and anguished – depicts what happens when suffering and shock burst into the world of a teenager, and the world of adults is rendered speechless.
