FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Loser Baby by Jason Bovberg was an interesting book.  I did have a hard time keeping track of who was talking, and I am sure that is because there were quite a few characters who were similarly acting.  I did think that this book was well written.  I didn’t find that this book was super suspenseful, and because of that, it did take me a little while to finish this book.  This is one where I would read it for an hour or so, and then I would walk away and come back to it later.  I enjoyed the plot of this book, and I wouldn’t mind reading other books by this author in the future, even though I am not the biggest fan of this book.  The author did do a great job of making the characters come to life as I was reading.  I can say that he did a great job of making me hate several of the characters.  If you are looking for a different type of book to read this fall, I would pick up a copy and check it out.

Jasmine Frank is missing.

It’s a humid summer morning in Santa Ana, California, and her twin brother Jordan abruptly finds himself on a desperate search—fearing the worst. The party last night got way out of hand, and his brain is still chemically fried. But this is Jasmine’s story. She’s awakened far from home to her own mystery: She’s unwittingly stolen something from the most dangerous person she’s ever known. Tommy Strafe. And now Tommy is raging through the sunbaked streets, gathering illicit forces to seek brutal retribution. But all Jasmine really wants is to get out of Orange County, escape her past, and find a measure of redemption.

Loser Baby is a propulsive blast through the streets of the SoCal melting pot, a breakneck dark-comic neo-noir populated by misfits and malefactors, criminals and innocents, down-and-outers and spun-out dreamers. Prepare yourself for an adrenaline rush of rat-a-tat he-said-she-said narrative twists—all in service of a giddily slam-bang shock ending.

Black Label by James L’Etoile

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Black Label by James L’Etoile was an exciting book.  I love that there were medical aspects in this book because those always interest me.  There wasn’t a ton of medical things going on, so if that is something that you don’t like, then I would still check this one out. This book did have quite a bit of suspense running throughout most of the book, which I loved.  The more tension that book has, the more I am going to enjoy the story.  The author did a great job of making the characters and the story come alive as I was reading.  I read this book in just a couple of days.  This book had just about everything that I love in an excellent psychological thrillerThis book kept me on the edge as I was reading, and I was sad when the story ended because I wasn’t ready to move on from these characters or this story.  If you love super suspenseful books, then I know you will love this book like I do.

Praise

“Tight, terrific, terrifying. BLACK LABEL delves into the murky world of pharmaceuticals where profit is prioritized above all else. L’Etoile creates a strong female lead in Jillian Cooper, a woman who faces obstacle after obstacle, but still charges into the abyss. More unnerving than a fistful of amphetamines. Unputdownable.”
—K.J. Howe, international bestselling author of SKYJACK

“James L’Etoile’s BLACK LABEL is a delightfully complex and twisty thriller with a ripped-from-the-headlines plot that will make you think long and hard before you swallow your next dose of medication. Add in an intrepid heroine willing to do whatever it takes to uncover the truth no matter the cost, and L’Etoile’s newest offering is a winner!”
— Karen Dionne, author of the #1 international bestseller THE MARSH KING’S DAUGHTER and THE WICKED SISTER

“Relentlessly fast-paced and compellingly twisty! The talented James L’Etoile sets up an irresistibly high-stakes situation: a woman is certain to be charged with murder and doesn’t remember a thing. Can she prove her innocence before she’s silenced forever? A dark journey through the world of big Pharma and big money—you will turn the pages as fast as you can.”
— Hank Phillippi Ryan USA Today Bestselling author of THE FIRST TO LIE

“If this book had a tag, it would say ‘proceed with caution’ because nothing is what it seems. Told with a vivid and visceral style, this is le Carré’s Constant Gardener meets The Fugitive. As the title suggests, BLACK LABEL is a top of the line thriller.”

Sweet Water by Cara Reinard

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Sweet Water, by Cara Reinard, was an exciting book.  I enjoyed this story, but I didn’t like Sarah right from the start.  The author did a great job of making the characters seem like they are real people, which is why I didn’t like Sarah.  I understood her, but I would never have married her husband, and I wouldn’t have done the things that she did.  I was frustrated with her and her choices throughout most of the book.  I didn’t like her husband’s family either because there is nothing worse than rich people who get away with everything.  The author did a great job of making all the characters come alive as I was reading.   I felt like I was reading a true story, which doesn’t happen very often when reading fiction.  I enjoyed this author’s writing, and I can’t wait to read more by her in the future.  She did a great job creating a book that seemed like the characters were real people, and like they lived in the same world that I do.  If you love books that you get lost in a while reading, I would for sure recommend this book to you.

About The Book

What did her son do in the woods last night? Does a mother really want to know?

It’s what Sarah Ellsworth dreamed of. Marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Martin. Living in a historic mansion in Pennsylvania’s most exclusive borough. And Finn, a teenage son with so much promise. Until…A call for help in the middle of the night leads Sarah and Martin to the woods, where they find Finn, injured, dazed, and weeping near his girlfriend’s dead body. Convinced he’s innocent, Sarah and Martin agree to protect their son at any cost and not report the crime.

But there are things Sarah finds hard to reconcile: a cover-up by Martin’s family that’s so unnervingly cold-blooded. Finn’s lies to the authorities are too comfortable, too proficient, not to arouse her suspicions. Even the secrets of the old house she lives in seem to be connected to the incident. As each troubling event unfolds, Sarah must decide how far she’ll go to save her perfect life.

The Shade Under The Mango Tree by Evy Journey

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Shade Under The Mango Tree by Evy Journey was a fascinating book.  It has been quite a while since I have read a book like this one,, and I found it really refreshing.  I really enjoyed this author and I can’t wait to read other books by her in the future.  I didn’t find that the plot was anything special but because of the authors writing I fell in love with the characters in this book.  As I was reading this book I never was able to figure out what was going to happen next and I loved that about this book.  I loved that just when I thought I had everything figured out the author would throw a curve ball and I was back trying to figure out what was happening.  This author did a great job of making me feel like I was there with characters.  Some authors go overboard when it comes to describing the settings in the book but this author did a great job of making the places come alive but not so much that you got bogged down in all of the details that you didn’t really need.  If you are looking for a new book to read this winter I would pick up a copy of this one and check it out.

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Two Murders Too Many by Bluette Matthey was hard for me to get into.  As I read the book, I found that I was bored, and I would put the book down and walk away.  This book took me quite a few sittings to finish reading it.  It is well written, but the flow of the book just didn’t work for me.  I felt like the author spent too much time introducing each character and not moving along the book’s plot.  I also found that I had a hard time keeping everyone straight because of all the details you are given about each of the characters in the book.  I am sure that this book is suitable for some people, but it wasn’t the right fit.

Last Girls Alive by Jennifer Chase

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Last Girls Alive by Jennifer Chase was a good book.  I believe that I read the first book in this series and then this one.  I will go back and read the other books because I enjoyed this author and the characters in this series.  This book wasn’t super suspenseful for me, but that didn’t bother me as I was reading.  I fell in love with Katie during the first book, and I remembered how much I liked her.  As I said before, I need to get the other books that I missed in this series to catch up with what has happened to her in the books that I missed.  I love finding a series like this one because I don’t have to say goodbye to the characters when I finish the book.  I feel like I would get along with Katie if she were a real person.  This book did keep me guessing right up until the end of the book, and I loved that about this book.  If you are looking for an excellent thriller to read this Christmas, I would recommend this book and the entire series, for that matter.

About The Book

Title: LAST GIRLS ALIVE
Author: Jennifer Chase
Publisher: Bookouture
Pages: 364
Genre: Crime Thriller

Half-buried in the muddy earth and surrounded by puddles of water lies the naked body of a beautiful young girl. Her pale skin looks like porcelain in the early morning light. Her fragile arms bent and crooked like a broken doll.

When Detective Katie Scott is called to the discovery of a young girl buried on the grounds of a former children’s home in Pine Valley, California, she’s hopeful it’s the end to a devastating cold case she’s been working on. No one has seen Candace Harlan since she ran away from Elm Hill Manor five years ago. Her death will be a tragedy, but it will also bring peace to those who miss her most. But the girl in the ground is not Candace.

The victim is almost identical to Candace in every way, but fear grips Katie as she takes in the black ink that decorates the girl’s back—a terrifying message tattooed on her skin after she drew her last breath.

Forcing down traumatic memories of losing her own parents, Katie is certain someone mistook this poor soul for Candace, and that this crumbling home for lost girls is at the heart of this terrible crime. She sets to work digging into the tragic history of the owners who lost so many children of their own and tracking down the last six residents and the staff who cared for them—but no one wants to talk, let alone remember.

The next day, as second girl’s body is found down by the creek at high water, the same words etched into her skin. Katie’s worst fear is confirmed: someone is picking off the last of the Elm Hill girls one by one. But what does the tattoo mean? And what monster would target these innocent girls who have already been through so much?

Katie must dig deep to confront her own fears and protect the vulnerable—but as the body count rises further, will there be anyone left to save?

An absolutely gripping, dark, and totally unputdownable serial killer thriller that will keep you racing through the pages all night long. Fans of Lisa Regan, Rachel Caine and Melinda Leigh will read in one sitting!

PRAISE

This novel is about Detective Kati Scott, Kati is a detective for the Pine Valley department. Her and partner work on solving cold cases together.  Kati hasn’t had an easy life but things will be getting worst for her before getting any better.  Kati has a lot of anxiety but she makes it work.  She and her partner are put on a case where a girl from the past is found on the property of a former children’s home in Pine Valley. and it’s up to her and her partner to figure out who the killer is.  This novel was so good. I was hooked from the start, I couldn’t stop reading I just need to find out what happens next with Katie and the case. Katie is a total badass. She is one strong lady. She is a very good female lead.  I loved the story soo much it was full of suspense and mystery.  I loved how it wasn’t very predictable. Things could change at any time and the ending was perfectly full of action. I really enjoyed this book. The writing was perfect and it flowed very well. This is my first Jennifer Chase book, I will definitely be looking for more. This book had everything I like action/mystery/romance/ suspense.
