I was right. The heat has already caused him to peel off his hoodie. I’m mesmerized at his muscles popping and straining against his tight T-shirt. He approaches quickly, too quickly. I try to hide the fact that I’ve been staring at him by slinking into the dark corner, but he rushes up and turns the corner quicker than I expected.

Our bodies collide. My green juice spatters between our chests, the cool liquid causing an instant mess. My gaze lowers to his broad, muscled chest as the liquid begins to blend into his dark T-shirt.

“Fudge,” I whisper and close my eyes, knowing my choice of an all-white outfit for a move is my latest epic fail. I have no one to blame but myself.

I feel the warm tingle of his finger as he lifts my chin slowly. I force open my eyes to meet his soft, sympathetic gaze.

“Sorry about that, Princess. I don’t know how I missed seeing you when it’s clearly the best sight here.”

I blink and try to process his words. “Poppy,” I whisper.

“Yeah, I know,” he returns.

“But you called me Princess.”

He takes a small step back as the liquid from the juice drips down my chest to my shorts and makes its way down my legs.

He whips his T-shirt off in a flash and uses the shirt like a rag, pressing it against my legs in order to stop the progress of the juice before it reaches my white Converse sneakers. “Poppy is too ordinary. You deserve to be called Princess. Princess P, it shall be.”

The insane statement is delivered like a proclamation.

Saving Grace by D.M. Barr was a great book.  I loved that this book had a unique plot that will keep most people guessing as they are reading.  I loved this book because there was no way to guess what was going to happen and what was going on.  I loved that this book kept me thinking, and I always wondered what was going on.  I am for sure going to read more books by this author in the future because I fell in love with her writing.  I loved that this book keeps you guessing because you are never sure what is going on and what is all in her head.  The author did a great job of keeping me interested and keeping me reading.  This book had just the right amount of suspense that I read it in only a few days.  I also felt terrible for Grace because I can’t even imagine how hard her life had been and how hard it had to be for her family to watch her going through everything.  If you are looking for a different to read, I would recommend this book to you because I know you will love it as much as I did.

By day, a mild-mannered salesperson, wife, mother, rescuer of senior shelter dogs, competitive trivia player and author groupie, happily living just north of New York City. By night, an author of sex, suspense and satire.

My background includes stints in travel marketing, travel journalism, meeting planning, public relations and real estate. I was, for a long and happy time, an award-winning magazine writer and editor. Then kids happened. And I needed to actually make money. Just as I have. A decision that has been taken from me because we weren’t married yet. So, her heartless fucking parents made that irrevocable decision to pull the plug. Exiling my pleas to hold off and give her more time. More time to fight … for her life … for us … for me. But, those pieces of shits don’t even acknowledge my need to keep her alive. Regardless of what the doctors say, they are not always right. They can actually be wrong. But as it turns out, they are all against me. I am the one that’s wrong. Well fuck them! When other guys my age were out doing God knows what, I was home making school lunches, helping with math homework, and making dioramas of Native American stories all the while keeping up with my very lucrative gaming hustle. I haven’t been with a woman in years. My last steady girlfriend was the girl I took to prom three months before my parents died. I haven’t been out with a woman in at least ten years. I tried to date at first but it was hard. Having a relationship just wasn’t possible. Most women only want me for my money. The others want fame. I am not inclined to let them seek it with me. Others ran when I told them I was raising my six younger brothers. Besides, there is only one woman I want and I don’t even know who she really is.

Her profile picture is just an up-close photo of stunning brown eyes and a sweep of brown bangs. Every time I upload something, she trolls the fuck out of me and oddly enough I love it. I finish the live game play and scroll through the comments. I am actively looking for her. Her snide, witty comments make me happy for some reason. My life revolved around my brother’s and gaming. Now that they are grown men and gaming holds little appeal, I relish reading her comments.

Now that my brothers are out there in the world, I’m finding myself having a bit of empty nest syndrome. They are doing things they are proud of, while I can’t even seem to be happy doing what I do. Even Kyle, who graduated high school in May, is already taking summer courses at the University Of South Florida. Logan is the only one who has his own apartment, but he’s always on the road so I don’t know why he has the damn thing. He plays professional rugby in the United Kingdom. He’s twenty-two with a lot to prove.


Just as I am about to shut my computer down for the night, I get a message on my website’s chat feature. Usually, I ignore those, preferring to interact with comments, but tonight I can’t.
It’s her. I decide that tonight’s the night I get to know her better.
