FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Deadening by Kerry Peresta was an exciting read.  When I finished this book, I wished that the next book in the series was released because I hate waiting.  This book did keep me guessing throughout most of the book, which I loved as well.  This book had a unique plot that also left me thinking about what was going to happen next.  The author did a great job of making the characters come to life and make me feel like I was right there with the characters.  It has been quite a while since I have read a book that I like as much as I did this book.  I also loved the medical parts of this book because that stuff always interests me.  I wish that this book moved a bit faster, but that wasn’t a deal-breaker for me.  This author did a great job of making me feel like one person did it, and then in the next chapter, I realized that I was wrong, and I had to go back and figure it all out again.  If you are looking for a book that will always keep you guessing, I would pick up a copy of this book and check it out.

Will Rise From Ashes by Jean M. Grant

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Will Rise From Ashes by Jean M. Grant had so much potential, but it didn’t live up to that with me.  It wasn’t so bad that I didn’t want to finish the book, but it did make me roll my eyes more times than I can even count.  I know that this book is fiction, so anything can happen, but I wished it was more fact-based.   I had a hard time connecting with the characters, and I am sure that I found the plot so far-fetched.  I did enjoy both of the narrators of this book.  I love when they use male & female narrators because it keeps track of who is talking even easier.  I did enjoy the author’s writing; like I have said multiple times now, I just wish that the plot would have been more believable.  I also felt like the ending of the book was rushed as well.  I want to more time would have been spent on the conclusion of the book.  I did feel bad for AJ because of everything that she went through.  I spent most of the book rooting for her and Reid to end up together because I thought they were perfect for each other.  There was one adult scene in this book so if that is something that would bother you then this might not be the right book for you.  If you don’t mind books that couldn’t happen in the real world, you will probably enjoy this book more than I did.

Hide In Place by Emilya Naymark

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Virtual Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Hide In Place by Emilya Naymark was an exciting book.  This moved at the perfect pace for me.  I love it when the author can include the right amount of details, so you don’t get bogged down in too many unnecessary details.  I spent most of the book want more details on what happened to Laney before the book started.  You get those details, but they don’t come all at once, so you have to keep reading to get all of the details.  I was able to figure out what was going on pretty quickly, but that isn’t anything out of the ordinary for me.  This is the first book I have read by this author, and I enjoyed her writing enough that I am going to read more books by her in the future.  Laneys, son Alfie, got on my nerves, but most teenagers in books usually do.  I get annoyed with them because they always make the worst choices, which makes the characters so relatable.  This book didn’t have hardly any suspense, which was kind of a letdown for me.  This book would be perfect for someone who doesn’t like books that have a ton of suspense in them.

About The Book

Genre: Thriller
Published by: Crooked Lane Books
Publication Date: February 9, 2020

She left the NYPD in the firestorm of a high-profile case gone horribly wrong. Three years later, the ghosts of her past roar back to terrifying life.

When NYPD undercover cop Laney Bird’s cover is blown in a racketeering case against the Russian mob, she flees the city with her troubled son, Alfie. Now, three years later, she’s found the perfect haven in Sylvan, a charming town in upstate New York. But then the unthinkable happens: her boy vanishes.

Local law enforcement dismisses the thirteen-year-old as a runaway, but Laney knows better. Alfie would never abandon his special routines and the sanctuary of their home. Could he have been kidnapped–or worse? As a February snowstorm rips through the region, Laney is forced to launch her own investigation, using every trick she learned in her years undercover.

As she digs deeper into the disappearance, Laney learns that Alfie and a friend had been meeting with an older man who himself vanished, but not before leaving a corpse in his garage. With dawning horror, Laney discovers that the man was a confidential informant from a high-profile case she had handled in the past. Although he had never known her real identity, he knows it now. Which means several other enemies do, too. Time is running out, and as Laney’s search for her son grows more desperate, everything depends on how good a detective she really is–badge or no.

Six Days of Memories by Stacy Eaton

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Six Days of Memories by Stacy Eaton was a good book, but I found it predictable.  Even though I found the book predictable, I enjoyed the story.  I wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrator at first, but she grew on me, and by the end of the book, I enjoyed her voice.  I enjoyed this author’s writing, and I will read/listen to more books by her in the future.  She did a great job helping me understand why the characters did what they did.  I spent a lot of time thinking that Natasha was insane because of the things that she did throughout the book.  I did hope that she and Jay would end up together in the end because I thought they seemed perfect for each other.  I wish that there would have been more of a mystery aspect to this book, but I understand that this was mostly just a romance novel and not a mystery book.  I was left feeling sad when I was finished listening to this book because I was sad to say goodbye to these characters. If you are looking for a romance book that has a little bit of mystery included, I would for sure recommend this book/audiobook to you.

Shadow Ridge by M.E. Browning

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Shadow Ridge by M.E. Browning was a great book.  I can’t remember a time recently where I enjoyed a book this much.  I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future, especially more books in this series.  I fell in love with this book right from the first page, and as the book went on, I fell more and more in love.  I didn’t want to put this book down until I was finished reading.  This was one of those books that I stayed up too late reading on more than one occasion, which isn’t something that often happens to me.  I loved that this author gave the right amount of details, so I didn’t get bogged down in all of them, but I also didn’t wish that she had spent more time describing other scenes.  As you can see I loved this book and its author.  I can’t wait to see what comes in this series.  If you love mystery books as I do, you will love this book and need to pick it up and give it a read.

Series: A Jo Wyatt Mystery, #1

Death is one click away when a string of murders rocks a small Colorado town in the first mesmerizing novel in M. E. Browning’s A Jo Wyatt Mystery series.

Echo Valley, Colorado, is a place where the natural beauty of a stunning river valley meets a budding hipster urbanity. But when an internet stalker is revealed to be a cold-blooded killer in real life the peaceful community is rocked to its core.

It should have been an open-and-shut case: the suicide of Tye Horton, the designer of a cutting-edge video game. But Detective Jo Wyatt is immediately suspicious of Quinn Kirkwood, who reported the death. When Quinn reveals an internet stalker is terrorizing her, Jo is skeptical. Doubts aside, she delves into the claim and uncovers a link that ties Quinn to a small group of beta-testers who had worked with Horton. When a second member of the group dies in a car accident, Jo’s investigation leads her to the father of a young man who had killed himself a year earlier. But there’s more to this case than a suicide, and as Jo unearths the layers, a more sinister pattern begins to emerge–one driven by desperation, shame, and a single-minded drive for revenge.

As Jo closes in, she edges ever closer to the shattering truth–and a deadly showdown that will put her to the ultimate test.

A Murder is Forever by Rob Bates

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

A Murder is Forever by Rob Bates was an exciting book.  This book was a slow-moving book, which didn’t bother me too much.  There wasn’t any suspense as I was reading and part of me wished that there had been some because I love books that have a ton of tension in them.  I did fall in love with Mimi right from the start of the book, and I hope the author writes more books with her in them because I would love to read them.  I was able to figure out who the killer was pretty early in the book, but that isn’t bad.  This book would be perfect for people who like mystery books but don’t like a ton of suspense in the book.  If you are looking for a mystery book to read this winter, I would for sure recommend this book to you.  This book also isn’t super long, so I could get through it in a couple of days, which I always love.

“[A] sprightly debut ….
