A Sky Without Stars by Linda S. Clare

Quilts of Love Linda S Clair A Sky Without Stars

A Sky Without Stars by Linda S. Clare was an interesting book to read.  I love the Quilts of Love series of books and this one was no different. In this one you follow along with Frankie Chasing Bear as she struggles to make it in Arizona. There are parts of this book that I knew weren’t believable at all but over all it was a good book. The author did a great job of making the characters come to life in my eyes and help me understand some of the choices that they made.

A Sky without Stars

About The Book

In 1951, Frankie Chasing Bear is a Lakota caught between cultures. She wants to raise her son Harold to revere his Lakota heritage, but she knows he will need to become as a white man to succeed. After his father’s killed in a barroom brawl, Harold and Frankie move to Arizona, where she begins a Lakota Star pattern quilt for Harold with tribal wisdom sung, sewn and prayed into it.

She distrusts Christians, as her own parents were forced to convert at an Indian School, until she meets BIA agent Nick Vandergriff, a half-Lakota who’s also caught between cultures. Nick must convince Frankie that white men and Christians aren’t all bad as he tries to win her heart in order to put the stars back into her sky.

What readers are saying:

Six amazing books from six different authors. They are all Christian fiction set from the 1800’s to present time. Each is a stand alone book with great settings, story lines and characters. All the books had family and faith. Some of the authors were known to me and some I was unfamiliar with. I really enjoyed each book. I can not wait to check out books from these new authors. - Amazon reader

I didn’t know what to expect - I am not a fan of anthologies. Usually I find that the stories are too brief and the plots move too fast and don’t go into any detail and don’t make a lot of sense. Well, let me tell you that this anthology is not like this, not at all. It is wonderful! I enjoyed each of the novellas immensely. Each one has well developed, thought out characters and detailed plots that move at exactly the right pace. You have suspense, romance - everything in each of the novels. I enjoyed reading each of the novellas and couldn’t put the book down. Even though I have about 15 other books waiting to be read - I plan on reading this book all over again in the next week or so - it is just that good. - Amazon reader

Cowgirl Trail by Susan Page Davis

12908507

Cowgirl Trail by Susan Page Davis was an amazing book.  I loved this book.  I loved that for the second time while reading a historical novel that the main character is a woman she just takes over and does what needs to be done.  In this book you get to see what Maggie goes through as she comes home from being away and has to basically take over rounding up the cattle and handling the cattle drive because the cowboys go on strike.  I loved Maggie and I have to say that the author does a great job of making you understand what is going on and also understand the time period.

About The Book

Cowgirl Trail is part of a six-book series about four generations of the Morgan family living, fighting, and thriving amidst a turbulent Texas history spanning from 1845 to 1896.  Although a series, each book book can be read on its own.
In 1884 Maggie Porter returns to the Rocking P Ranch. The sanatorium was not able to save her mother and now her father’s health is failing. When the cowboys walk off the job leaving no one to drive the cattle to market, head ranch hand, Alex Bright, cannot convince the men to stay. How could Alex let this happen?
Maggie is desperate to save the ranch and she turns to the town’s women for help. The new cowgirls must herd, rope, and drive the cattle to market. With only two days left, outlaws charge the small band of cowgirls in an effort to start a stampede. The cattle begin to scatter. Will they lose everything? Where will their help come from?

About The Author

I’m a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.

My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. We’re so glad we did. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim’s family have even moved to Maine!

Our children are all home-schooled. The two youngest are still learning at home. Jim recently retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, and we’ve moved from Maine to Kentucky.

I’ve always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books. My young adult novel, Sarah’s Long Ride, also spotlights horses and the rugged sport of endurance riding, as does the contemporary romance Trail to Justice. I took a vocational course in horseshoeing after earning a bachelor’s degree in history. I don’t shoe horses anymore, but the experience has come in handy in writing my books.

Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I’m proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim’s and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.

Jim does freelance editing as well. In addition to his 20 years experience at the newspaper, he’s edited all my novels before they go out, and he helped edit Primitive Archer Magazine for several years. He has recently edited several novels for Summerside Press.

For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman’s World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine.

Scraps of Evidence by Barbara Cameron

Barbara Cameron Scraps of Evidence Quilts of Love
Scraps of Evidence by Barbara Cameron was a fun book to read.  I loved this book but I did figure out who the killer was during the first chapter. That being said I still didn’t want to put the book down because I loved the authors writing and I loved the characters. The author did a great job of making me love the good characters and making me hate the bad characters. She also did a great job of making me feel like I was there with them. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read other books by her.

Mail Order Groom

Mail Order Groom - PROMO Blitz
By Cindy Flores Martinez
Romantic Comedy
Date Published: February 2014
Lisa is about to marry her first real love and have the wedding of her dreams, but her world is shattered when she finds her fiancé, Jeff, in the arms of another woman. When he calls the wedding off, Lisa is heartbroken, but her heartache turns to anger when she sees him in town the next day with the other woman.

In a momentary lapse of reason, Lisa decides to marry another man at the wedding. She finds Krzysztof Zielinski from on Mail-Order-Grooms.Com. He needs to marry an American woman so that he can stay in America, and he’s willing to pay money for it, but his reason for needing to stay is what tugs at Lisa’s heart and convinces her to say “I do” to him. Besides, green card marriages are easy, right? They’re short-lived and not real. She won’t even have to live with him. And marrying another man would be the perfect revenge on Jeff.

Lisa races to the altar with her stand-in groom, but she struggles with the guilt of deceiving her parents and facing her confused wedding guests. And then she learns that she does have to live with Krzysztof. She wakes up the next morning hoping it was all just a bad dream.

How will she handle the dilemma she has gotten herself into? Will she be able to make things right in the end?

EXCERPT
Daphne was waiting for me as I raced down the sidewalk on Main Street through the bustling morning crowd. I had called her right as she was about to dial my parents number and tell them that the wedding was canceled, and I asked her to meet me there instead. I had picked myself up off my bed, my body rising as if from the ashes. My demeanor had gone from the deepest, darkest hopelessness to a light flickering upon my newly made up face.
Daphne watched me in disbelief as I approached. “Tell me you are not serious about this.”
“I’m dead serious.” I rushed past her without stopping.
“But he’s a total stranger!”
I was on my way to meet Krzysztof Zielinski from Mail-Order-Grooms.Com, and I was going to ask him to marry me. Crazy? Yes. Insane? Irrational? Unbelievable? It was all of those things and more, but my mind was made up.
Daphne joined me. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because I have to. If Jeff doesn’t want me, or this wedding, then I’m going to show up with a man who does.”
She scoffed. “You can’t be serious.”
“You said your friend married a man to help him get a green card, and she only had to see him at the wedding and at the interview at the immigration office. I’m going to do the same thing myself.”
Daphne swerved around a passerby. “But your situation is different than hers. You have a lot of people in your life who know you. How are you going to explain this to them? What are you going to tell your parents?”
“I’m going to say that I fell in love with Krzysztof and that I want to marry him instead of Jeff.”
She guffawed. “They’re not going to believe that!”
“I’ll make them believe it.”
“How?”
I couldn’t see why she was acting as if it was so impossible. I didn’t think it would be too hard to convince anyone after they saw how Krzysztof looked, and wait until I told them he liked baking and writing poetry. “Aren’t you the one who wanted to marry Josecito what’s his name?” I flung my arm in the air.
“Only after I got to know him and if things worked out. I never would have done it this soon. Will you please stop and think about what you’re doing?”
“I have thought about it.”
“I don’t think you have. Not fully.”
The delicious aroma of baking bread permeated the air as we approached the Polish bakery where Krzysztof worked. I stopped a few feet away from the entrance. “Daphne, will you please go along with this for me? Please.”
“No, Lisa. This is crazy!”
“Do you have any idea how hard this is for me? I loved Jeff more than anything, and he threw me away! If you would have heard the things he said to me. If you would have seen him with her.”
“I know, but this isn’t the answer.”
“It’s the perfect answer.”
