Find Her by Lisa Gardner

Book Review Graphic

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.

Find Her by Lisa Gardner was one of the better books that I have read in past few months.  I read a ton of books as most of you know but this book took me back to the types of books that I loved to read before I started to review books here.  I love books like this because they keep me on the edge of my seat, and I don’t want to stop reading them until I know how it all ends.  I know that these books can be overwhelming to some people but for the most part, I love them.  Right from the start I loved how the author was able to make me understand what it would feel like to be somewhat buried alive or, at least, be in a box that all you can do is lay down.  I also loved that Flora is a survivor and you get to see how she survived and how is able to help others in the small ways that she does.   I can’t say enough good things about this book and this author.  If you love reading thriller/suspense books then I know you don’t want to miss this one.  I can’t wait to check out other books by this author and see how they are compared to this one.

Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr

Tur FTC

Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr was an interesting book, to say the least.  This is one of those books that nothing goes right from the start and at times I had to laugh because I couldn’t see some of the things happening but other parts I could totally see happening.  Like when Gnarly ate the wedding rings I could totally see that happening but then you find out the David is already married when he goes to get his marriage license, but he claims that he had no idea that he got married years before.  I enjoyed this story but at times, I wish I had others books in this series before so that I would know more of the backstory but you can just pick this book up and understand what is happening and who the characters all are.  I really enjoyed this book even though at times all I could think about is how there is no way that anything like this could happen.  This is the first book I have read by this author and I am for sure going to be adding more books by this author to my pile of books I want to read.  I think pretty much everyone would love this book and have a good time reading it.

A Muddied Murder by Wendy Tyson

Book Review GraphicA Muddied Murder by Wendy Tyson was a cute book.  I have read several other books by her and I really enjoy her style of writing.  I really enjoyed the characters in this book and the setting of this one.  I did find parts of this book predictable but that is pretty common for me considering that I read so many books and these types of books tend to be my favorite types of reading.  I really liked Megan from the start.  I love books have strong female characters because I always feel like I am able to relate to them more than other types.  I loved trying to figure out who killed Simon and why they did it.  I also loved following along as Megan tried to clear her name and get her businesses up and running.  If you love mystery books that aren’t super gross than I know you will love this one and you need to add it to your list of books to read.

If I Run by Terri Blackstock

Book Review 1-2016

If I Run by  Terri Blackstock was another great suspense/thriller novel.   This is the 4th book I have read by this author, and I am starting to think that she can’t write a bad book.  I always get sucked into the books from the first chapter right up through the end of the book.  Once the book ends I find that I am usually sad because I have fallen in love with the characters and hate that the book has ended, and this book was no different.  I wasn’t sure if I liked Casey throughout most of the book but in the end, I did enjoy her.  I had a soft spot for Dylan because of the things he went through and for being a veteran.  I love this book because I wasn’t able to figure it out super early on which means that I love it.  If you love suspense/thriller books, I know you will love this book as much as I do.

If I Run by Terri Blackstock

About The Book

Casey knows the truth.

But it won’t set her free.

Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.

But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?

Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

The Body In The Landscape by Larissa Reinhart

Book Review 1-2016

The Body In The Landscape by Larissa Reinhart was an okay book.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the story but it was well written and I am sure that most people would enjoy this story.  I want to check out other books by this author because I loved the authors writing style and I try not to  write an author off if I don’t like the first book I read by them.  This is the 5th book in the series and it is the first one I have read.  I was able to understand what was going on in this book but it would have been nice to read the other books first because then I would have known the back story but you can just read this one and understand what is going on.  If you love chick lit books than I am sure you will like this one.  I think one of the things that turned me off of this book is the fact that part of it has to do with hunting and I am not a fan of that.  That being said there isn’t to much of that in the book but it just turned me off right from the start.

The Body In The Landscape by Larissa Reinhart

About The Book

“Anyone who likes humorous mysteries will also enjoy local author Larissa Reinhart, who captures small town Georgia in the laugh-out-loud escapades of struggling artist Cherry Tucker.” – Fayette Woman Magazine

“Cherry is a quirky spitfire who lights the match that sets her little town on fire.” – Dru’s Book Musings

When Cherry Tucker’s invited to paint the winning portrait for Big Rack Lodge’s Hogzilla hunt, it seems like a paid vacation. Back home in Halo, a Hatfield-McCoy-style standoff builds between Luke and Cherry’s families. She’s ready for a weekend away, hobnobbing with rich and famous hunters, where she can forget her troubles and nobody knows her name.

As Georgia sunshine turns to bleak December rain, Cherry’s R&R goes MIA when she finds a body in the woods. While the police believe the local drunk took an accidental spill, Cherry has her doubts, particularly when a series of malicious pranks are targeted at the rifle toting contestants. With loyal companions at her side—sort-of-ex-husband Todd and a championship bayer named Buckshot—Cherry tracks suspects through a forest full of pitfalls and perils. And all the while, a killer’s stalking the hunt party with a bead on Cherry.

Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble

Book Review 1-2016

Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble is the second book in the Sunset Cove series.   I haven’t read the first book in the series so I am not sure what it was about but I do wish now that I would have read the other book because I did wonder about some of the back stories.  With that being said you will be fine and able to get through the book without reading them in order but is plan on reading the series then I would start with the first book.

Anyway, let’s get on to the review for this book.  I really like this book from the first chapter through the end of the book.  Even though I was able to understand what was happening I do wish that I was able to know parts of the back story but that is mainly because I  am super nosy and just wonder what happened to Mallory’s mom and that back story but that didn’t make the book hard to understand.  I don’t know that I have ever read a book by Colleen Coble that I haven’t liked and this another amazing book by her.  She was a way of making you sit on the edge of your seat and her writing also makes me love her characters.  If you are looking for amazing books than I would for sure check out any books by her.  If you love mystery/suspense novels then you will love this book as much as I do.

Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble

About The Book

Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus #killerpursuit

Winter Book Review

Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus was a good book.  I have read tons of books this past year and I think that this book is at the top of the list of the books I have enjoyed reading this year.  I also really enjoyed this authors style of writing and his characters.  I also can’t wait to pick a few of his others books up in the new year.  Anyway, let’s get on to the review of this book.  I am a huge fan of Allison because she is such a strong female character that can be hard to find in books in this genre.  I really can’t say enough great things about this book because I loved it from the start and I was left feeling sad when I was done with it because I loved the book.  I know I am adding his other books to my list so that I can read more of his books.  If you love thriller type books than I would recommend this book to you.

Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus

About The Book

When a high-society call girl is murdered in her Georgetown home, investigators find two cameras hidden in the walls of her bedroom. One has its memory erased, presumably by the murderer. The second is connected to the Internet through an encrypted connection…and no-one knows who’s on the other end.

Special Agent Allison McNeil is asked by beleaguered FBI Director Clarence Mason to run an off-the-record investigation of the murder. The most direct path to apprehending the killer is to find the videos, but with rumors that the victim’s client list may have included Mason’s political enemies, Allison worries about the director’s motives. As she starts her investigation, she quickly discovers that she’s not the only one pursuing the videos. In fact, the most aggressive person racing against her might be the murderer himself.

A Piece of You: A Sami Rizzo Thriller by D.M. Annechino

iRead Website new logo

A Piece of You: A Sami Rizzo Thriller by D.M. Annechino was by far my favorite book in the series.  I think this was my favorite because I could see the things in this book actually happen.  Because of the subject matter in book one, I wasn’t able to bring myself to read it but this one is 100% better than book two was.  Even with this book being the third one in the series it can be read as a stand alone book but like I said before if want to read the whole series I would start with book one.   I really enjoyed the serial killer in this book and to be honest, I am not sure why.  I liked this book as well because I had a hard time figuring out the whole the killer was and I was interested as to why he was killing members of a certain family and not just random people.  This book was well written like the other two books were and it is a story I would for sure read again because I enjoyed it that much.  If you love thrillers I know you will enjoy this one as much as I did.

A Piece of You

About The Book

Homicide Detective Sami Rizzo is at it again! She never dreamed “America’s Finest City,” would be tormented by yet another serial killer, but for the third time in the last five years a depraved maniac is stalking the streets of San Diego. Based on her qualifications and prior successes dealing with multiple murders, who else would Captain Davison assign to head the investigation?

Different from Sami’s past experiences, this fanatic is like no other. His methods of killing defy everything profilers think they know about serial killers. As an intense investigation begins and bits and pieces of evidence emerge, no one can understand his motivation. He’s merciful, yet brutal. And just to make things even more confusing, all of his victims are blood-related. Is he settling a vendetta? Did he randomly pick a name out of the phone book and begin a rampage? Or is there a deeper story?

Based on very little evidence and a lot of gut instincts, Detective Rizzo pieces together a complex puzzle and narrows the field of possible suspects. She learns that the killings may connect in some way to powerful people within the judicial system and doesn’t know who to trust. Ultimately, she comes face to face with the killer for a battle of brain and brawn. Can she outwit the shrewd killer, or will she be his next victim?

Breaking Wild by Diane Les Becquets

Winter Book Review

Breaking Wild by Diane Les Becquets was a good book to read.  I did get lost, but that is because I have been so busy that even when I sat down to read my head isn’t 100% in the book.  This is one of the few books that I know I will go back and read again once things have slowed down at work and I can take the time to really focus on what is going on in the book.  I really enjoyed this authors style of writing and the premise of the book.  I live in a state where people hunt and things like that and even though I don’t do any of those things I felt like I could relate a little bit to book.  If you love books that have suspense than I know you will enjoy this one just like I did.

Breaking Wild

About The Book

In captivating prose, Diane Les Becquets tells the story of one woman missing in the Colorado wilderness and another bent on discovering the missing woman’s whereabouts, in an unforgettably moving and thrilling literary debut.

It is the last weekend of the season for Amy Raye Latour to get away. Driven to spend days alone in the wilderness, Amy Raye, mother of two, is compelled by the quiet and the rush of nature. But this time, her venture into a remote area presents a different set of dangers than Amy Raye has planned for and she finds herself on the verge of the precarious edge that she’s flirted with her entire life.

When Amy Raye doesn’t return to camp, ranger Pru Hathaway and her dog respond to the missing person’s call. After an unexpected snowfall and few leads, the operation turns into a search and recovery. Pru, though, is not resigned to that. The more she learns about the woman for whom she is searching, and about Amy Raye’s past, the more she suspects that Amy Raye might yet be alive. Pru’s own search becomes an obsession for a woman whose life is just as mysterious as the clues she has left behind.

As the novel follows Amy Raye and Pru in alternating threads, Breaking Wild assumes the white-knuckled pace of a thriller laying bare Amy Raye’s ultimate reckoning with the secrets of her life, and Pru’s dogged pursuit of the woman who, against all odds, she believes she can find.

Diane Les Becquets is a Professor of English and a faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University’s MFA Program in Fiction and Nonfiction. Resuscitation: A Sami Rizzo Thriller by DM Annechino

iRead Website new logo

Resuscitation by A Sami Rizzo Thriller by DM Annechino was a good book.  I did at points in the book laugh because of how far fetched parts on this book was.  Even with me saying that I still really enjoyed this story.  This is the 2nd book in the series and you don’t have to read the first book if you don’t want to.  I didn’t finish the first book because of the content and it made me super uncomfortable and I was able to understand this book.  I would say though that if you want to read all the books in this series start with the first book because if you read them out of order you will ruin parts of the first book.  I love this authors writing and I did enjoy this book even more that some because part of it takes place in the medical field and I always love books that include things like that.  If you love thrillers I know you will love this book and this series.

Resuscitation

About The Book

Two years ago, Detective Sami Rizzo narrowly escaped a brush with death at the hands of a serial killer. After apprehending the killer and bringing him to justice, this life-changing event compels her to resign from the police force. In her heart of hearts, however, she struggles with the decision. But a second serial killer—a well- respected doctor gone astray—uses his charm to seduce his victims and then performs horrific surgical experiments on them. In a final act of depravity, he scatters their mutilated bodies throughout San Diego County. Feeling a sense of duty and obligation, Sami Rizzo appeals to the police chief and mayor, and they reinstate her as a homicide investigator. As the body count grows and the killer’s experiments become more and more brutal, Sami follows one dead-end lead after another, while trying to deal with a sickly mother and a turbulent relationship with her lover. But then the killer makes a crucial mistake: one of his victims survives. Sami does everything to protect the barely alive victim, but the killer has a different plan.
