Book Review Graphic

Tooth for Tooth by JK Franko was a very intense book right from the start. This book had a lot to live up to because I really enjoyed the first and I always get worried that I would like the second book like I did the first book but in this case, I enjoyed this book just as much if not more than the first book.  This book is the second book in the series and I would recommend reading the books in order because if you don’t you will be confused and not understand why the characters are making the choices that they do.    That being said this isn’t the book for you if you don’t like super suspenseful books or more intense books.

I am really enjoying this author because he is able to hook me from the first page right through until the book is done. This is one of those books that just when I think I have it all figured out I find out that I am wrong and I start guessing again.  This is one of the few books that take me to places that I don’t see coming over and over again.  This book is super intense and isn’t for people who aren’t into books like that.  As much as I enjoyed this book I had to put it down and step away because it would get too heavy with everything that is going on in the real world right now.  If reading a heavy book right now is something that you can handle I would for sure pick up a copy of this book and give it a read.

IN THIS BLISTERINGLY RELENTLESS SEQUEL TO HIS DEBUT SHOCKER, EYE FOR EYE, J.K. FRANKO TAKES READERS ON A BREATHTAKING JOURNEY OF CAT AND MOUSE

About The Author

J.K. FRANKO was born and raised in Texas. His Cuban-American parents agreed there were only three acceptable options for a male child: doctor, lawyer, and architect. After a disastrous first year of college pre-Med, he ended up getting a BA in philosophy (not acceptable), then he went to law school (salvaging the family name) and spent many years climbing the big law firm ladder. After ten years, he decided that law and family life weren’t compatible. He went back to school where he got an MBA and pursued a Ph.D. He left law for corporate America, with long stints in Europe and Asia.

His passion was always to be a writer. After publishing a number of non-fiction works, thousands of hours writing, and seven or eight abandoned fictional works over the course of eighteen years, EYE FOR EYE became his first published novel.

J.K. Franko now lives with his wife and children in Florida.

The Pinebox Vendetta by Jeff Bond

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

The Pinebox Vendetta by Jeff Bond was a good book but it did take me a couple of chapters to hook me.  Once I was hook though I was able to read through this book pretty quickly and I always love books that I can get through pretty quick.  This book did keep me guessing through most of the book is always a great thing because it keeps me interested and keeps me reading because I have to know how the story ends.  I really enjoyed the author and his writing throughout this book.  It was a slow starter like I said so this is one that you have to stick out a few slow chapters but once it picks up it doesn’t slow down until you are done with the book.  In the end, I loved Sam but at times she did get on my nerves because I just wanted her to say what she was thinking more than she did.  If you love a good thriller then I would check this one out and if you have read it what did you think of it?

About The Book

Series: Pruitt-Gallagher Saga, #1

From the author of The Winner Maker and Blackquest 40 comes The Pinebox Vendetta: a genre-bending thriller that combines a love story, cold-case murder mystery, and political blood feud — told over the course of a single breathless weekend.

The Gallaghers and Pruitts have dominated the American political landscape dating back to Revolutionary times. The Yale University class of 1996 had one of each, and as the twenty-year reunion approaches, the families are on a collision course.

Owen Gallagher is coasting to the Democratic nomination for president.

Rock Pruitt — the brash maverick whose career was derailed two decades ago by his association to a tragic death — is back, ready to reclaim the mantle of clan leader.

And fatefully in between lies Samantha Lessing. Sam arrives at reunion weekend lugging a rotten marriage, dumb hope, and a portable audio recorder she’ll use for a public radio-style documentary on the Pruitt-Gallagher rivalry — widely known as the pinebox vendetta.

What Sam uncovers will thrust her into the middle of the ancient feud, upending presidential politics and changing the trajectory of one clan forever.

The Pinebox Vendetta is the first entry in the Pruitt-Gallagher saga: a series that promises cutthroat plots, power grabs, and unforgettable characters stretched to their very limits by the same ideological forces that roil America today.

Diver’s Paradise by Davin Goodwin

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Partners In Crime Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Diver’s Paradise by Davin Goodwin was an interesting book.  It was super suspenseful but I did enjoy the characters and this author’s writing.  I was able to read this book in a few days which I always enjoy because it means that I don’t have to spend a ton of time invested in a book.  I did wish that there had been more suspense in this book but this book is perfect for people who aren’t into books that have a ton of suspense in them.  I was able to figure out what was going to happen before it ended but for me, that isn’t a deal-breaker because I am almost always able to figure out what is going to happen before it does.  If you are looking for a book to read to hide from what is going on in the world right now I would recommend this one to you all.

After 25 years on the job, Detective Roscoe Conklin trades his badge for a pair of shorts and sandals and moves to Bonaire, a small island nestled in the southern Caribbean. But the warm water, palm trees, and sunsets are derailed when his long-time police-buddy friend back home, is murdered.

Conklin dusts off a few markers and calls his old department, trolling for information. It’s slow going. No surprise, there. After all, it’s an active investigation, and his compadres back home aren’t saying a damn thing.

He’s 2,000 miles away, living in paradise. Does he really think he can help? They suggest he go to the beach and catch some rays.

For Conklin, it’s not that simple. Outside looking in? Not him. Never has been. Never will be.

When a suspicious mishap lands his significant other, Arabella, in the hospital, the island police conduct, at best, a sluggish investigation, stonewalling progress. Conklin questions the evidence and challenges the department’s methods. Something isn’t right.

Arabella wasn’t the intended target.

About The Author

My family members have always been epic storytellers. I regularly wrote short stories in high school and college and, later in life, freelanced several articles for trade and industry publications. For years, the idea of writing a novel bounced around in the back of my mind, but never found its way out of the darkness. My wife, Leslie (Double L), and I have visited the island of Bonaire nearly 30 times over the past 20 years, many of those trips for extended periods. The island is a perfect setting for the style of novel I wanted to write. Yes, the book would be a murder mystery, but I needed a laid-back, slightly exotic setting. And I wanted the book to partially center around scuba diving, an activity Les and I enjoy together as often as possible. During the Spring of 2010, with mild coaxing from friends and family, the concept of Diver’s Paradise came to fruition. However, after close to a year of writing, I gave up, not touching the story for almost six years. In the Spring of 2017, I pulled out the tattered manuscript, rewrote and edited till blue in the face, then endured daily heart palpitations, waiting for submission responses from agents and publishers. Nine months after my first submission, and after agonizing through a boatload of rejections, Oceanview Publishing—to my good luck—offered a contract. I would be a published author. Diver’s Paradise launches on April 7, 2020 in Hard Cover and eBook, followed later in paperback. I enjoy being outdoors when the weather is nice. I don’t particularly like snow and cold weather, which can be problematic dwelling in the frigid, midwestern state of Wisconsin. Exercise is a passion of mine, although I don’t do it as intensely as in past years. Running, biking, and swimming are my favorites. As of several years ago, golf and I decided that we can no longer be friends. Through high school and college, I played violin in the orchestras and community ensembles. Much to the chagrin of those close to me, around the age of sixteen I was struck with an uncontrollable desire to play the 5-string banjo. And play I did. Hours and hours a day. Everyday. In 1992, the band I played with at the time, travelled to the Ukraine and performed in the International Kiev Music Festival. I’ve also performed on radio, TV, and recorded on several albums. I’m 58 years old and live in Madison, WI. Originally from Rockford, IL, I went to college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR., graduating with a degree in Computer Science. I’m married and have one daughter and one stepson, both grown. Professionally, I have roughly 30 years’ experience in the technology industry and currently manage a group of software developers for a local, mid-sized company. In the past, I’ve owned several small businesses, worked as an aerial photographer, a semi-professional banjo player, a flight instructor, and a real estate investor. Future Plans: Continue the Roscoe Conklin series, hopefully, for a long time.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Vegas Lies by Andrew Cunningham was a good book but I am also done with these characters.  I have reviewed the other 2 books in this series and you can check out those reviews here and here if you missed them or if you are interested in seeing how I felt about them.  I reached the point at the end of the book where I was annoyed that no matter what happens to the main characters they survive and go right back to making stupid choices that should have gotten them killed.  Even with me saying that I did in the story for the most part but I was able to figure out how it all was going to end. I think if I had more time in between listening to the books that I wouldn’t have been as annoyed with the characters.  You don’t have to listen to the other two books in this series if you aren’t interested in them. You will be able to understand what is going on in this book without having read the other two books but if you are interested in the series than I would start with book one so nothing gets ruined for you.  I did like these characters and if the author writes more books with these characters I will pick it up so that I can catch up with them in the future. If you are looking for a new series to start reading this winter I would pick up a copy of this series and give it a read. If you have read this series what did you think of it and which book was your favorite?

About The Author

Andrew Cunningham

I’m the author of novels in several genres, including, mystery, thriller, and post-apocalyptic science fiction. Under the name A.R. Cunningham, I’ve also written the Arthur MacArthur series of mysteries for children.

I was born in England, but have spent most of my life living in the U.S.—including 25 years on Cape Cod before moving to Florida. A former interpreter for the deaf and long-time independent bookseller, I’ve been a full-time freelance writer and copy editor for many years. A 4th-degree Master Black belt in Tang Soo Do, I finally retired from active training when my body said, “Enough already! Why are you doing this to yourself?” I’m married, with two grown children and two awesome grandsons. My wife and I spend as much time traveling as we can, and are especially fond of cruising the Caribbean.

I have been gratified by the response to my books. When I published Eden Rising back in the spring of 2013, I had no idea what to expect. When I sold my first few copies, I was excited beyond belief that someone was willing to take a chance on it. Numerous books and thousands of copies later, I am still humbled by the emails I get from readers telling me that my books kept them up late into the night.

In October of 2014, Wisdom Spring made me an official Amazon Bestselling author, a thrill I never thought would happen. But it still comes down to being able to bring a few hours of escape to a reader. That’s what it’s all about for me.

I hope you will try my books. Please feel free to email me with your comments.

Her Last Whisper by Jennifer Chase

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Her Last Whisper by Jennifer Chase was a great book that managed to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the book.  This book was a slow starter for me but once it got moving I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished with the book.  This is the second book in the series but you don’t have to read the first book if it doesn’t interest you. I didn’t read the first book and I was able to figure out what was happening and follow along.  I adored Katie right from the start of the book and I know that I will read the first book in this series and any other books that come out in this series. It has been a while since I have read a book that I enjoyed as much as I did this one.  I loved that as I was reading and I thought that I had it figured out I discovered that I was wrong. I love it when I find a book that is able to keep guessing right through until the end of the book. If you are looking for a crime thriller book to read this winter I would for sure recommend this one to you.

About The Book

Title: HER LAST WHISPER
Author: Jennifer Chase
Publisher: Bookouture
Pages: 320
Genre: Crime Thriller

Katie focuses her mind, trying to keep another anxiety attack at bay. The victim’s long brown hair is slick and wet, her body rigid in the grass. She looks more like a mannequin than the woman Katie had spoken with only yesterday, the woman she had promised to protect…

When a cold, naked body is discovered by a couple on a jog through the lush woodlands of Pine Valley, California, new recruit Detective Katie Scott is stunned to discover the victim is Amanda Payton – a much-loved local nurse and the woman at the heart of an unsolved case she’s been investigating whilst getting a grip on her crippling PTSD.

Weeks earlier, Amanda had run, battered and bruised, out into the headlights of a passing patrol car. She claimed to have just escaped a kidnapping, but with no strong evidence, the case went cold. The Pine Valley police made a fatal mistake…

Katie is certain the marks on Amanda’s wrists complete a pattern of women being taken, held captive and then showing up dead in remote locations around Pine Valley – and she won’t let someone die on her watch again.

But then a beautiful office worker with a link to the hospital where Amanda worked goes missing. With only days before the next body is due to show up, can Katie make amends for her past by saving this innocent life?

Totally gripping crime fiction for fans of Lisa Regan, Rachel Caine and Melinda Leigh. Nothing will prepare you for this nail-biting roller-coaster ride…

Readers adore Jennifer Chase!

Fatal Lies by Andrew Cunningham

FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Audiobookworm in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

Fatal Lies by Andrew Cunningham was a good book. The one thing that I really remember about this book is how pissed off I got at one point because I knew that if the two main characters when somewhere that someone would try and kill them and I was right.  Things like that always drive me nuts. It reminds me of the same thing that happens in horror movies when you know they are making a stupid choice as they are making it. This book was able to keep me interested in what was going to happen even though I pretty much know how it was going to end and who had been doing the killing in the book.  This is the second book in the series but if the first book doesn’t seem interesting to you don’t have to read it in order to understand the story. I did review the first book and you can see what I thought of that one right here.  This was a shorter book to listen to and I was able to listen to the whole thing in one day.  This book wasn’t sure suspenseful but I didn’t have a problem listening to the whole thing even though I thought the main characters are total idiots.  If you are looking for a new series to listen to I would for sure when this on out. I will also have a review of the third book up next week.
